1973 was a milestone year in Tan Swie Hian’s life during which he experienced a breakthrough in his spirituality and creative capacity. Henceforth, his artistic creations have been characterised by freedom – in medium, subject matter, genre and expression. The artist likens his newfound free mind to a hummingbird that can fly in all directions and experience different realms of reality.
Now, more than 40 years later, Tan’s works are presented again at the National Library in this exhibition featuring over 100 creations in a wide range of media. This is the first time the multidisciplinary artist’s creative process, as documented in his notebooks through writings and sketches, has been featured with his artworks.
Discover the extraordinary world of a free mind through Tan Swie Hian’s creations and notebooks!

The world’s loudest, most exciting fun run, The Music Run by AIA 2017 is back for its third year! Ticket sales for this award winning sell-out event are now open, with prices starting from SGD50 for the Super Early Standard Pack and SGD75 for the Super Early Rock Star Pack. Set against the backdrop of Sentosa’s gorgeous beaches, The Music Run by AIA promises to be a heart-thumping good time for all Music Runners on 6 May.
More like a party than a run, The Music Run by AIA is the ultimate 5k running and music festival. Participants will run down the untimed five kilometre ‘Sound Track’, as the running course is known, across five music zones with Rock, Old School, Pop, Hip Hop and Dance tunes blasting along each kilometre.
To add to the experience, The Music Run empowers The Music Runners to decide the songs they want to run to. Using a bespoke online music selection app powered by Spotify, participants can vote up to five songs per playlist every day to build the official soundtrack for each zone. The songs with the most votes will be played on the day and make the official soundtrack for the Singapore run.
The Music Run by AIA will kick off with sets by a local act at the Music Village before the run begins at 3.30pm, and end with an After Party featuring international radio house DJ Sam Withers. Throughout the event, Music Runners will also be treated to a range of fun and exciting activities in the Music Village.
Be part of The Music Run by AIA and register now at www.themusicrun.com.sg. A Standard Pack includes a T-shirt, bag, sticker, and tattoos while the Rock Star Pack includes a T-shirt, bag, Rock Star cap, phone arm band, SGD10 merchandise voucher, a sticker, and tattoos. Registration starts at SGD50 and two children aged five and below can run for free with an accompanying adult.

Peaks Speak, a major solo exhibition comprising 40 recent artworks by artist Laure Hatchuel-Becker is showing at Art Porters from now to April 23. The works all display Laure’s extraordinary technique of colourful oil peaks of colour on canvas, inspired by Australian aboriginal art.
Laure Hatchuel-Becker said “Peaks Speak is my fourth exhibition in as many years in Singapore, in response to the considerable interest for my work here. I am both grateful and delighted. I look forward to meeting collectors and members of the public at the opening event and to interact with everyone at the artist talk.”
Peaks Speak Laure Hatchuel-Becker has created a new language – one of sophisticated elegance, precise beauty, crafted mountains of rich oil colours, mesmerizing and precise landscapes of thousands of sculptures.
Each of these myriads of sculptures is a miniature geological formation, perfectly pointed and shining under the gallery light. The viewer is drawn to a close inspection of each peak, better seen from the side of the painting. One would want to be a fly on the wall and yet move further away and take the breathtaking beauty particularly of the animal compositions, with their subtle and respectful references to many masters of art history.
In front of the artworks, one wants to engage in a tribal dance, intense and strictly choreographed. Navigating from close up in a magical helicopter above the peaks, then moving further away one can fully admire Laure Hatchuel-Becker’s carefully controlled craft and meditative prowess.
