Berlin Bicycle Week 2016 (BBW) brings together lifestyle and industry once again for a week of culture and cycling events highlighted by Berliner Fahrradschau, the world’s leading cycle lifestyle show. Held from 14 to 20 March 2016, the BBW now features over 100 events including racing, shows and workshops, bringing together diverse elements of the cycling community to provide a unique platform for enthusiasm and participation.
The week begins with the opening party at Gestalten Space where the official release party for Velo 3rd Gear invites everyone to celebrate a lifestyle enriched by cycling culture, welcoming the public with a specially curated exhibition, featuring a live DJ and drinks. During the week, 25 of the best Berlin bike shops will participate in the “Lange Nacht der Bike Shops” where shops will host parties and exhibitions for their loyal customers and newcomers alike.
Cycling is more than just exercise for the body—it’s a balm for the soul! Holistic Cycling is about health, well-being, and the bicycle as a form of spiritual therapy. Delight in Bicycle Yoga with Timo Pritzel, Meditation with Chris Connors, Osteopathie as Holistic Therapy with Uwe Schiffner, als auch “The Spirit of Inner Awareness” with Birgit Hegemann. Enjoy the Women’s Ride, and attend seminars to learn more about Balanced Nutrition and Juicing. With a full week of activities, Holistic Cycling is dedicated to feeling good in the saddle—and everywhere else. But of course there is more!
Racing and cycling events abound. The week is filled with competitive events such as the Singlespeed Cyclocross European Championship, the UCI Berlin Trials Cup, and the Pump Track Battle World Series, Junkyard Cyclocross, and the Second Berlin Cargobike Race. Side event highlights include the Second Berliner Laufrad Pokal for the kids, the Highwheel Race on penny farthing bicycles, jousting events at the Berlin Pedal Battle, world champion Artistic Cycling, competitive Bike Polo, and even a world record attempt for headspins on a bmx bike!
Likewise, if you are looking for a new bike, there are two events where you can try the latest and greatest from e-bikes to racing bikes, through to cargo bikes and everything in between. Just show up and ride! The first, THF Testival, is found on the airfield at the former Tempelhof Airport, featuring Trek and other top brands on hand along with the Trek E-Derny Race powered by Diamant. Alternatively, for off-road flair, head over to Grünewald Forest for the Specialized “Test the Best” event.
