Tmall, China’s largest B2C platform for brands and retailers under Alibaba Group, launched the annual 11.11 Global Shopping Festival for shoppers in Singapore with a colourful showcase of exciting brand offerings from its home & living, lifestyle and fashion categories, along with a slew of compelling offers for local shoppers ahead of 11 November.
This year marks another important step in the event’s evolution from Singles Day in 2009 to what it has become today: the world’s largest 24-hour online sale and a celebration of the future of retail. In keeping with Alibaba’s New Retail strategy, this year’s 11.11 will further demonstrate the value of combining the online and offline shopping experiences, infusing physical retail elements in social media, interactive content and entertainment.
Buy Globally, Sell Globally will also be a key focus of this year’s festival. As part of this initiative, Tmall will, for the first time, bring 100 Chinese brands overseas during 11.11, offering special promotions targeting more than 100 million overseas Chinese consumers in Southeast Asia and around the world.
11.11 Global Shopping Festival in Singapore
Singapore has been one of the active buyer markets for 11.11 in the past few years, with local shoppers snapping up bargains during the 2016 sale from top-selling product categories such as consumer electronics accessories, personal care, lounge wear, women’s fashion, bags & cases, audio-visual appliances, home appliances, and storage & organisation.
Local shoppers can access the mega-sale, which will begin on 11 November at 00:00 and come to a resounding end at 23:59, through Taobao Marketplace (world.taobao.com) or Mobile Taobao (手机淘 宝), the flagship mobile shopping app of Alibaba Group.
Taobao Collection, a range of curated products from Alibaba’s Tmall and Taobao platforms offered through Lazada, was also launched this year, enabling shoppers in Singapore as well as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand to take part in 11.11 in their local languages with an end-to- end Lazada user experience throughout from shopping to payment to logistics.
Charlene Zhang, Business Development Manager of Tmall World said, “As 11.11 continues its tremendous growth and cements its standing as an annual event that shoppers mark out on their calendars, we’re excited to bring new benefits and offers to Singaporean shoppers. This year’s shopping experience will be enhanced for Singaporeans thanks to new localised services including sea freight shipping and installation services.”
Promotions for Singaporean shoppers
In addition to incredible discounts across a huge range of popular items, Singapore’s shoppers can also enjoy exclusive promotions on Tmall and Taobao Marketplace offered by local payment partners, including:
With all these exciting promotions accompanying 11.11, shoppers can begin their Christmas shopping earlier!

Apple announced the release of its most expensive phone to date, iPhone X. There are several things about its features which caught the attention of many ardent Apple fans – durable all-glass body, augmented reality, and its resistance towards water and dust.
However, what caused quite a stir around the world is the price tag of Apple’s new phone. This premium handset starts at a shocking SGD999 in Singapore and has angered many fans with its exorbitant cost.
But Singapore isn’t the most affected by Apple’s worldwide price changes. According to a global price comparison study by CupoNation, consumers in Europe are paying a higher price for Apple phones – and the launch of iPhone X isn’t changing anything. In fact, Hungary is the most expensive country to purchase an iPhone X.
If you are a fan who is bent on getting your hands on this premium glass phone, US and Japan are the cheapest countries, where Apple Stores will charge iPhone X buyers the equivalent of £755 and £771 respectively.
Previously, the UK was a favourite destination for iPhone lovers, however, as the pound rate tumbled, US and Japan became fast new destinations for those planning their iPhone travels this year.
So, now may be a good time to check out flight tickets to Tokyo for a much-welcomed family holiday while bringing back a nice holiday treat of the brand new iPhone X for yourself!

Singapore’s premier Sneaker and Streetwear convention returns for the 5th consecutive year this November, taking over the entire new Zouk Singapore complex at Clarke Quay.
The previous 2016 edition drew a record turnout of over 4,000 attendees, eliciting plenty of social media bouquets and laudatory Vlog and media post-event reviews.
International Vloggers 小 屁孩 Xiao Pi Hai (Malaysia) and AdityalogyTV were awestruck by the ‘heat’, hype and the turnout witnessed; both in agreement that Sole Superior was a “crazy” experience. Blogger MianBaoBreadPan raved that Sole Superior “gets bigger and better than the previous year” while Highsnobiety documented the “best sneakers worn” for a 2nd consecutive year, emplacing Sole Superior (and Singapore) firmly in the realm of globally recognized sneaker conventions.
Attendees this year can expect trademark curation of vendors-blending global brands with local retailers, alongside independent labels, artists, community groups and individual collectors. As always, only the rarest, freshest, priciest sneaker and streetwear heat to be found in single venue – from the highly coveted to the absolute holy grails.
Highlights For The 2017 Edition
A full day of treats, surprises, fun and all round great vibes with over SGD30,000 worth of products to be given away. Also, be excited for an exclusive “head-to-toe” capsule of Sole Superior collaboration merchandise with international brands New Era, XLARGE and Novesta and Singapore independents Freshly Pressed Socks and Pras the Bandit. Produced in highly limited quantities and created specially to celebrate Sole Superior turning 5, expect these collaborations items to be snapped up fast.
For the partygoers, look forward to the first ever official Sole Superior Afterparty. Jointly presented in partnership with Moonbeats Asia and held in a secret warehouse location in Tai Seng, the afterparty will be headlined by Fool’s Gold Records artist Falcons’ Singapore debut. Throw up those flame emojis because it’s going to be mad lit with bangin’ dancehall, electronica and hip hop grooves to accompany drinking, dancing, giveaways and surprises galore till the early morning.

Racism has always been an eyebrow-raising topic in Singapore. With the lack of spaces for open and accessible discussion on what we can do as a nation, OnePeople.sgOn October 20, 2017 / By Nookmag
Racism has always been an eyebrow-raising topic in Singapore. With the lack of spaces for open and accessible discussion on what we can do as a nation, OnePeople.sg is bringing the community together constructively to discuss and celebrate our racial diversity.
The rising number of mixed-parentage children and immigrants continues to add diversity to our cultural fabric. With this diversity comes opportunities for progress and the need to create new spaces for inclusive conversations. “As an expatriate who has been living in Singapore for three years, I believe our values and feedback need to be heard. Inviting us to be part of the conversation will make a huge difference. Locals and foreigners will be able to find alignment in their expectations to embrace their diversity,” says Winsy Togelang, Expatriate and Eldercare Centre Manager.
This year, OnePeople.sg is reaching out to new segments in Singapore including the elderly, migrant workers, expatriates, new citizens as well as interracial families. With a more inclusive space for discussion, an improved model can be developed to better address the complexity of our changing cultural mix.“As Singapore is a multiracial country with many migrants, migrant workers should be integrated
with the main society. For them, there is a need for more spaces and initiatives to practice their culture and involvement with locals. Such initiatives will help Singaporeans to get to know and understand them better,” says Mohsin, Managing Editor for Bangla Kantar.
As a lead up to Onepeople.sg’s signature Orange Ribbon Walk event, Racism GoFlyKite will be happening on the 22nd of October from 2pm to 6pm at Marina Barrage. The community engagement event will see an informal afternoon of positivity and conversation. Participants work together to build and design their own kites, writing positive messages on their kites before flying them together in support of the call to rise against racism and unite as a community.
These kites will then be displayed in a special exhibition entitled Harmony Garden on the 11th of November as part of The Orange Ribbon Walk 2017. Harmony Garden aims to be an inspiring exhibition co-created with the community! An enchanting display of the kites collected from our Racism GoFlyKite event and flags representing our rich cultural fabric will not only add colour to the Orange Ribbon Walk but also make it an even more meaningful event. This is not the first time OnePeople.sg is pioneering such an effort. Through community engagement efforts such as the annual Orange Ribbon Movement happening in November and various capability-building workshops, the non-profit organisation (NGO) has been working to foster an appreciation for diversity and nurture cross-cultural exchanges within the community. With a fast-paced work life and shortening attention spans, it is important that conversations around building community remains relevant and integrated in the lives of people in Singapore.
“To achieve Singapore’s beautiful vision, we need to first understand each other. With inclusive activities, more voices and people will be heard and seen. For new immigrants to be actively integrated, they must express themselves bravely and positively commit themselves to society,”says Zhang Pu, Teacher with the Ministry of Education in Singapore. This year, OnePeople.sg continues its effort to push for a more inclusive society by creating informal spaces for these ground up conversations to happen. Creating family-friendly and fun activities, such as Racism Go Fly Kite as well as the Harmony Garden the organisation hopes to foster safe and inclusive spaces for organic intercultural learning.

The one problem most sneaker enthusiasts face is financially funding such an expensive hobby. Classic sneakers don’t come cheap, but lucky for you, we found a couple of tricks to help you find the perfect pair at a steal!
1) Travel To Shop
Buying certain products in some countries can actually be more expensive than others because of foreign exchange rates, local taxes and more. Likewise for sneakers, we found that a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor in India is significantly cheaper compared to other countries (SGD55.13). Also, after comparing the price of a pair of Vans Oldskool globally, getting a pair from Malaysia (SGD75.76) will allow you to purchase them without breaking the bank.
2) Save At Retail Stores
If you are a hardcore fan of a specific classic sneaker brand, for instance, Converse Chuck Taylor, then signing up for a Converse membership, where you can enjoy 30% discount on your birthday month is the perfect way to save! Sometimes, signing up for a membership will even allow you to attend exclusive events.
Alternatively, opting to subscribe to a mailing list such as New Balance’s allows you to stay up to date with the latest deals and happening of the brand.
It’s a good habit to mark your calendars for the next sale season such as Black Friday, Singles Day, and more. Also, apart from seasonal sales, consider buying new sneakers after sale seasons (after Christmas and Hari Raya). Most retailers are ready to let go of certain stocks to make space for new arrivals then!
3) Opt To Shop At Factory Outlets
You can always find hidden gems in factory outlets such as Changi City Point and IMM. Factory outlets usually sell sneakers at a cheaper price, especially previous season stock. Check out the Nike Factory Store and New Balance Outlet.
4) Take Bargain Hunting Online
E-commerce retailers have made sneaker shopping a breeze. As long as you know your shoe size, you can stay in the comfort of your home and wait for your sneakers to be delivered. By using price comparison websites such as Priceme, you can even spend lesser on a new pair of sneakers. Most online retailers allows for free delivery when you order over a certain amount. For instance, Zalora delivers for free if you order over SGD40, allowing you to save even more!
Want to earn more every time you spend? Activate cashback when you shop using Shopback, you will earn money in your account every time you make a purchase.
You can also consider using coupons to get further reductions. The Zalora coupon gets you an additional 14% off, allowing you to save on your favourite pair of sneakers!

Midnight strikes. The revelry interrupted by a sudden violent gust of wind that sweeps across the open ward. Amidst the pulsating beats, a deep isolation sets in. Deranged souls surround you, while chaos descends upon Ward 63 under the dim glow of the moon. The battered clock chimes with a deafening echo that reverberates throughout Ward 61 down below. Ghostly shadows murmur ever so softly beckoning you forth to escape the demonic shackles of the hospital from hell in heaven. You attempt a mad dash to escape hell and return to the light of day. For reasons unbeknownst, the lonely stairwell leads you on a never-ending agony, set to trap you to a long stint in solitary with only the twisted souls of the living dead as your companion. 1-Altitude invites you to answer THE NIGHT CALL, a survival horror at its most twisted. Will you survive and escape hell in the sky, or succumb to the evil clutches of the twisted inhabitants at THE HOSPITAL FROM HELL?
Survive the terrifying nightshift this Halloween at Singapore’s highest al-fresco bar and premier VIP nightclub – 1-Altitude Rooftop & Bar, and Altimate, as the rooftop and dance floor transform into delightfully chilling wards of a haunted hospital from hell. Unearth the horror that lies within the sinister walls, and let the restless souls of the derelict hospital’s medical staff and patients chill you to the bone, while they roam the unsettling corridors of the two harrowing wards.
Quell your fear with Dom Pérignon, or indulge in the specially concocted Halloween cocktail of the night, Blood Bag, for a devilishly good time. Conjured up for the night, the Blood Bag cocktail is a spooky brew of sage, blackberry liqueur, tequila, lemon juice, cranberry juice and triple sec, that’s set to tickle your senses.
Navigate your way through Ward 63 under the dim glow of the moon, and stay alert with resident DJs, Leonard T and Jack T, as they keep the atmosphere upbeat and the darkness at bay.
If that doesn’t keep you on the edge, take a walk down the dark and lonely stairwell to Ward 61, where internationally renowned 6-man DJ collective, AOS, will be headlining the hair-raising night. Dress to the occasion, and come decked in your gruesome best – a patient risen from the dead, or a twisted murderous doctor – for a complimentary entry to both wards.

Just over a year after FreedomYoga first opened in the heart of the central business district in July 2016, the team is thrilled to welcome its second home, which officially opened on 2nd September 2017, this time in bustling Holland Village.
The cosy, boutique-style studio on the second floor of a shophouse in Lorong Liput promises to continue all the things that Freedom Yoga has come to be known and loved for: an airy space full of natural light; rain showers and complimentary towels; and of course, dedicated instructors on hand to ensure that each class is enriching, fulfilling, and invigorating.
Freedom Yoga believes that yoga is for everyone, regardless of gender, body size, age, experience, and more. As such, the team has worked to develop a range of class types that meet whatever it is you’re looking for: from the usual Basics classes for those who want to work on their foundation; to the challenging Upside Down inversion classes which prepare students for handstands, headstands, arm balances and more; and the unique, energising Flo-ga, where dance and music meet asanas in a choreographed yoga flow class.
With the hope of building a community, not only with those who come by to practice, but also with its neighbours in the area, Freedom Yoga has partnered with Project Acai and I Love Nails to offer exclusive perks—a free trial class with a package purchase at I Love Nails, for example, or a complimentary Project Acai bowl after a Freedom Yoga member completes 10 classes. The studio also stocks several Ashley & Co. products, as well as HeyLikeWow vitamin water and WowProtein drinks for anyone who needs a boost before or after practice.
Class prices at Freedom Yoga remain competitive, starting from SGD30 for a single class and ranging to SGD600 for a shareable, 30 class package. Unlimited 1-month and 3-month memberships are also available for those who need a more regular fix of freedom.
Whether it’s at Freedom Yoga’s flagship studio in Cecil Street, or its unassuming new home in Holland Village, the goal has always been the same: to welcome anybody and everybody into the family, and to show them that freedom can indeed come in many forms. “I hope the new space will be a community playground for like-minded individuals to practice, come together, and celebrate being the best versions of themselves,” says Freedom Yoga’s founder, Elvina Cheong. “That it’s a place where we can inspire our students, and empower all those who step through our doors. I hope to bring Freedom to the people, and to make Freedom Yoga a way of life.”

evian® launches its new Oversize campaign across Asia, and brings to life a world in oversize, as seen through the eyes of a baby. This is the seventh edition of the company’s highly successful “Live young” campaign.
“The evian® “Live young” brand promise has come to life through our iconic babies campaigns year after year. In continued efforts to surprise and push boundaries, we base our latest chapter, Oversize, on a premise that gets consumers to literally experience their world from a different perspective,” explains Patricia Oliva, the Global Marketing Director at evian®.
This regional campaign was kicked off in Taiwan by regional campaign ambassador Ella Chen, one of the most recognizable faces in Asian showbiz today. Her outgoing, creative and bold personality made her the perfect fit for evian’s “Live young” brand promise. During the event, Ella shared more about her “Live young” philosophy towards life. “Live young is not about the age. It is an attitude and the willingness to be different, to be bold to try new things. We must always be young at heart and that to me is “Live young””.
At the event, evian® also launched its first-ever Asia Oversize fashion wardrobe at the Xinyi District in Taiwan where consumers were invited to walk into an Oversize wardrobe and experience the campaign for themselves.
Oversize brought to life through exclusive collaborations
The evian® Oversize campaign invites everyone to perceive the world through their inner baby’s eyes. Already, the visuals showcase personalities from around the world who discover themselves being projected as babies after drinking evian® natural mineral water.
To date, the global evian® “Live young” team comprises of international sports personalities Maria Sharapova, Stan Wawrinka, Lucas Pouille, Madison Keys and Lydia Ko. Sun Li, famed Chinese actress, has also joined the campaign as of June 2017. Promoting the importance of sports, hydration and a healthy, balanced lifestyle, the six brand ambassadors are part of a digital clip that highlights their transformation into babies after drinking evian®.
“After the Baby & Me campaign in 2013, which portrayed adults in front of their reflection as babies, this Oversize campaign goes one step further by giving everyone the chance to experience the world through the eyes of a baby. Whether you are a tennis champion, an
actress, a business professional or regular Joe, the message remains the same: youth lies within each of us and all we need to do is embrace this “Live young” spirit every day,” comments Marielle Durandet, VP at BETC, the creative agency behind the “Live young” campaign.
Extending an internationally successful “Live young” narrative
Since the first “Live young” campaign in 2009, evian® has managed to capture popular imagination across all ages with this very successful and award-winning creative narrative. From the first Roller Babies campaign, evian® has been collecting thousands of millions of impressions. The 2017 evian® Oversize campaign looks to further that narrative. It will be activated in evian® core markets and supported by fan engagement and ongoing digital content for a year.

Today, Google announced it is bringing Google Wifi to Singapore, in partnership with StarHub. Google Wifi is a mesh networking system that replaces traditional routers, putting an end to dead zones at home and ensuring strong and fast signals for all your connected devices. Singapore is the first country in Southeast Asia to introduce Google Wifi.
Set up and control your network with the Google Wifi app
With Google Wifi, you no longer need to schedule an appointment with a technician to set up your new router. Google Wifi makes it so easy that you can do it yourself. Simply download the Google Wifi app available on Android or iOS and follow the step by step instructions, so you’ll be online in no time.
With the Google Wifi app, you can also see which devices are connected to your network and how much bandwidth they’re using. Streaming your favourite scene from Descendants of the Sun on your TV? Give it more bandwidth and a faster connection by selecting it as a “Priority Device”. Now you can sit back and enjoy that episode uninterrupted by other devices in your home.
Giving you fast Wi-Fi anywhere, anytime
Singapore has the world’s fastest broadband speeds1 but sometimes it may not feel like it. Traditional Wi- Fi routers aren’t always built to support the increasing number of devices we use or high bandwidth activities like gaming or watching videos. Most of us just want our Wi-Fi to work fast at home, without spending time managing our network or pushing the reset button on the router.
With Google Wifi , your device will always be placed on the channel with optimal Wi-Fi connection. Even as you are moving from room to room, Network Assist will automatically transition your device between the Google Wifi system points, keeping you connected to the point with the strongest signal so you avoid dead spots or delays.
Helping your family with special everyday moments
We know it’s tough to put a pause on your kid’s FIFA video game or get everyone to the dinner table. The Google Wifi app lets you pause Wi-Fi on your kids’ devices or create scheduled pauses for dinner time and bedtime, so you can fully engage in that mealtime conversation or squeeze in one more session of bedtime storytelling. Lights out, Wi-Fi out!
Martin Geh, Managing Director, APAC Hardware Partnerships at Google said, “Having a fast and reliable Wi- Fi connection is important to Singaporeans. Google Wifi provides seamless coverage at home, solving common issues like dead zones, spotty Wi-Fi connections, confusing set-up processes and so much more. Parents will also have greater control of their family’s Wi-Fi network, enabling them to spend quality time with their children whenever they want.”
Google Wifi in stores on 31 August
Starting 31 August, customers in Singapore will be able to buy a three-pack Google Wifi bundle at $15 per month over 24 months when they sign up for or renew selected StarHub Broadband or Hubbing all-in-one plans.
Mr. Howie Lau, Chief Marketing Officer, StarHub said, “Mesh networking is quickly becoming popular, and we are thrilled to be Google’s exclusive local partner for Google Wifi, which has set the standard for ease-of-use, performance and affordability. With Google Wifi, our home broadband customers can easily enjoy wireless broadband connections at every corner of their homes.”

Singapore-based makeup and image consultant group, 27A debuts makeup label, INGA, with a capsule collection of lipsticks. Launching first at www.ingacosmetics.com, the range carries a spectrum of ten matte lipsticks that are specifically formulated to complement the Asian skin tones and to withstand humidity in tropical climates.

Expertly formulated and screened for the best results through cruelty-free tests, the brand is built on the foundations of quality ingredients, lasting coverage, and day-long comfort.
Debuting as the brand’s first collection of products, the new array of lip sticks promises to deliver just what it was set out for. Designed for optimum coverage across the day for women of all walks of life, the lipsticks boast a matte formula that is moisturizing, easy and smooth on the lips. Priced at SGD29.00, makeup and lip colour lovers can choose from an array of tinted blends from the natural pastel nudes to luscious and darker shades, all with names that mean beautiful across different languages.

My team and I have worked so hard for this, I am tremendously happy with the results and I cannot wait for the world pucker up their lips with our lipsticks!”, she adds.
