As the festive season reaches its peak, the most anticipated sneaker release of the year is finally here! Any sneaker or Michael Jordan fan will know by now that the Air Jordan 11 ‘Concord’ will be released globally (including Singapore) on 23 December 2011.
Originally released in 1995, the Air Jordan 11 ‘Concord’ was last retro-ed in 2000. Following an eleven-year hiatus, the ‘Concord’ Air Jordan 11 will finally have a second retro drop.
The sneaker is packaged in a special drawer box with ‘Concord’ shoe inserts. Uncover the drawer box and you will be faced with 2 sayings – “Tinker made them shine” and “You made them iconic”. “Tinker made them shine” refers to designer Tinker Hatfield using black patent leather on a sneaker which was unheard of in those days and “You made them iconic” refers to the fact that the Jordan 11 ranks as the one of the most sought after Jordan shoes in the whole Jordan line.
A brief history – the Air Jordan 11 model was designed by Tinker Hatfield. While Jordan was still pursuing a career in baseball, Hatfield designed the shoe in hopes that Michael would eventually wear it if he returned to the NBA.
The Jordan 11 was meant to stand out with a fusion of performance and style. Taken from the world of high-end mountaineering backpacks, the cordura nylon upper gave the Air Jordan 11 model lightweight durability. Further innovation came with the use of a carbon fiber plate on the sole of the shoe that can be seen underneath the clear outsole, which gave the shoe exceptional torsional rigidity. The most visually distinct aspect of the shoe was its shiny patent leather mid and toebox. The shiny leather gave the XI what many described as a ‘formal’ look – a fact that many owners of the shoe took advantage of and paired the shoe off the court with business suits in substitution for dress shoes.
The most interesting part of these sneakers is that they were ‘sampled’ during the playoffs of the year of Jordan’s first return (1995) and Michael was not even supposed to wear them. The folks had no choice but to make it a production model and the decision turned out to be a good one.
Join the frenzy and cop yourself a pair on the launch day! Available at Limited Edt at Queensway, Limited Edt Vault at 313@ Somerset and Limited Edt Chamber at the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, the Air Jordan 11 ‘Concord’ will be available in men’s, women’s, kids’ and infant sizes. For more information, visit www.limitededt.com.

This December, Nookmag took the plunge and has resurfaced with a refreshing new look after two exciting years! Born out of passion and fun, Nookmag has always embraced and advocated individualism. In all honesty, we ain’t the coolest folks around and we ain’t trying to be anybody. What we possess are our very unique selves and heaps of good cheer and spirit. By wearing our hearts on our sleeves, we hope to inspire as many as possible to be comfy and cozy in their own skin too.
Exactly two years ago when Nookmag was conceived, we decided to create an identity for ourselves based on what we believe in. In opposing the norm, we went horizontal, literally. Emphasis was placed on tons of graphics for everyone’s visual pleasure. The ‘Flavours’ section extensively fulfills this role and allows readers to browse through features just like a magazine.
In our quest to reach new heights, we decided to put Nookmag through a facelift after getting some feedback. Without compromising our identity, the new Nookmag allows readers to navigate around with more ease and comfort. Graphics still take centre stage so that Nookmag remains visually appetising. For the ‘Flavours’ articles, readers can simply click on each image to enlarge for a magazine-style browsing. In this brand new chapter for Nookmag, we have also revived our favourite street-snap section – ‘Nooked’!
Every month, Nookmag will feature 18 style-savvy individuals spotted on the streets in ‘Nooked’. Check them out and remember to vote for your favourite by clicking on ‘Nook It’. The individual with the most ‘Nooked’ will receive a SGD$50 fashion voucher from us.
As we celebrate Nookmag’s second-year anniversary with this spanking new look, we look forward to sharing more exciting goodies with you! In this spirit, we toast to endless nooklicious affairs ahead!
Spread the love, peeps!

Swedish fashion sock brand Happy Socks recently collaborated with famous American photographer Terry Richardson on a fashion shoot that features the who’s who and coming talent.
The Terry Richardson for Happy Socks campaign consists of a series of 11 portraits presenting Terry Richardson’s perspective on happy socks. Stylist/fashion editor Mel Ottenberg and designer Adam Selman created an impressive series of looks based on Happy Socks’ Chapter #FOUR collection, turning Happy Socks into pants, sweaters, tops, even bunny ears and a bow tie to reflect the personality of each subject. Creative Director Jen Brill brought her impeccable sensibility and vision to the project.
“When Mel and I started discussing the wardrobe, we both wanted a bunch of different pieces to be able to pull from when we were at the shoot. Almost a sock- inspired collection,” says designer Adam Selman.
Launched in 2008, Happy Socks is currently sold in over 50 countries, across every continent. The brand’s recent partnership with United Legwear Co. has allowed Happy Socks to continue to build its retail base in the U.S. market, serve its existing customers more efficiently, and develop its long term goal of being the number one fashion sock brand in the world.
“We are so excited to be working with Terry because of his iconic fashion photography,
hip following of trendsetters and cultural influencers, and his own personal cool factor,” said Isaac E. Ash, President and CEO of United Legwear Co., the exclusive U.S. licensee for Happy Socks.
“The campaign reflects much of what Happy Socks is all about: playfulness, unexpected pops of color, amazing patterns, creativity, and fashion. I’ve been in this business for 20+ years and it’s rare to see this kind of excitement happening around socks. Happy Socks is all about having fun, and Terry’s campaign, featuring apparel and accessories made from legwear, shows that we can all have fun with socks!”
Happy Socks is available at Actually.

Converse Inc. announces the limited-edition José Parlá for Converse (PRODUCT)RED Chuck Taylor All Star shoe launching on World AIDS Day – December 1, 2011. A painter, widely acclaimed in the art world, Parlá’s collaboration with Converse (PRODUCT)RED is designed to help provide awareness for the fight against AIDS in Africa and encourage consumers to become agents of change, turning art into power. A percentage of the net wholesale price of the shoe will go to The Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa.
Internationally renowned, Brooklyn-based artist José Parlá is widely recognized for his distinctive abstract process that blends calligraphy, collage, textures, and color to create paintings with complex themes ranging from urbanization, current events to political divisions. Parlá’s paintings frequently serve as symbols that depict his memories of place, observations, moods or a shared stories related to travel and cities around the world.
Using the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe as a canvas, Parlá chose his painting “Ephemeral Pitches, and Notes, Rhythm and Phonetics” to grace the shoe’s upper. A striking work, the painting explores constant changes to urban lifestyle and was inspired by abstract noises, music, rhythms, languages and sounds of cities. Selected by Parlá in recognition of the change that is part of the mission of (RED), the painting’s themes also represent a nod to Parlá’s days of youth wearing Chuck Taylor All Star shoes to play basketball, dance and have fun.
“Wearing Chuck Taylor All Star shoes as a kid, I never imagined that one day there would be such an awful disease like AIDS and that, as an artist, I could help fight by collaborating with Converse. Life brings you surprises and the best surprise would be that one-day the cure for AIDS is found. For now, I invite people to join Converse (PRODUCT)RED in the effort to help prevent more casualties, and become an agent of change,” says José Parlá.
Using an extremely high-tech laser printing technique, the “Ephemeral Pitches, and Notes, Rhythm and Phonetics” print is carefully color matched for an immaculate, vivid representation of Parlá’s original piece in natural tones of tan, yellow and grey. Parlá’s signature can be found on the shoe’s footbed as well as a repeat calligraphy pattern along the shoe’s lining. The shoe’s outsole also receives a unique painted treatment, giving nod to the artist at work in his studio. High-level construction throughout, the shoe’s design is completed with natural color laces and the signature Converse (PRODUCT)RED top eyelet.
Converse First String is a limited-edition collection that celebrates craftsmanship, authenticity and collaboration at the highest level. The charity SpinningTop is launching the Little Lotus Project 2011 in December. This collaborative art project involves twelve talented artists from across the globe travelling to the Thai/Burma border (Mae Sot) to work with and inspire refugee and migrant children, who have fled from the instability of Burma.
The sophomore project this year will see these international artists from New Zealand, Cambodia, Singapore and the US fundraise their own way to Mae Sot after being inspired by the success of the first Little Lotus Project in 2010. Moved by the spirit and passion of the Little Lotus Project, Nookmag is proud to support and sponsor local artist Sheryo in her quest to make a difference through this mission.
During this trip to Mae Sot, Sheryo and the other artists that include Peap Tarr, DRYPNZ, Ritzy Periwinkle, Angry Woebots, Meghan Geliza, J*RYU, Cleo Barnett, Leon Dalton, Pat Shepherd, Gareth Moon and Daniel Zana, will work together with the children of Sky Blue School and SAW School.
Over two weeks, the artists will undertake a number of youth development and education projects with an artistic focus, including murals based around the alphabet. Each school will celebrate the completion of their mural with a paint party where the artists and children will collaborate on a huge canvas that will be cut up into smaller works and auctioned off in New Zealand and LA at post trip fundraising exhibitions.

Outlier talks a lot about freedom, comfort and motion, but nothing illustrates these quite like the Liberated Wool Peacoat. The problem with regular vintage navy peacoats is that their fabric is so constrictive you can barely reach a subway straphanger in one, let alone get comfortable riding your bike. The Liberated Wool Peacoat keeps the classic peacoat aesthetics but uses an innovative cut and a 2.5 layer wool softshell fabric to create a cool weather jacket fit for motion, versatility and comfort.
It has incredible freedom of movement, is bafflingly lightweight, extremely weather resistant, highly breathable and warm. All without sacrificing the sharp looks you’ve come to expect from a peacoat.
The Liberated Wool fabric has a beautiful yarn-dyed wool outer face and soft fleece interior. Holding them together is a water and wind resistant polyurethane bond. The result is a warm fabric with the sharp looks of quality wool, the soft flexibility of fleece and the breathable weather resistance that only the Swiss can architect.
The Liberated Wool Peacoat is made in NYC using Swiss fabric and custom Corozo buttons. Features include a high buttoned collar, merino/nylon inner cuffs for warmth, perfectly pitched three piece sleeve and modulated back pleat for superior arm movement. Dolomite Blazed Cotton seam binding rounds out this superior piece of outerwear.
The Liberated Wool Peacoat ($650) is available now on the Outlier Webshop in Ash Gray and Charcoal Gray.

The Ching Chong Group, A creative-technology studio developing mobile applications and games announced on 16th November 2011 the launch of feecha, a mobile tool that allows people to locate interestingOn November 21, 2011 / By Simcik
The Ching Chong Group, A creative-technology studio developing mobile applications and games announced on 16th November 2011 the launch of feecha, a mobile tool that allows people to locate interesting happenings in close proximity.
Conceived and constructed entirely in Singapore, feecha brings the local and social networking scene to the next level by allowing users to share noteworthy information and broadcast it to people nearby.
What sets feecha apart from other existing popular apps is that location is the heart of the equation. Users will be able to post interesting activities or events in their location so that others nearby can see what they see, or even check it out in person.
To create a feecha on the map, users take a video or photo of the activity, upload it to the app and share it with a short comment. Once shared, a feecha will appear on the map; the more popular the story is on the app, the bigger and more alive the feecha becomes.
Feechas feed on attention to grow and breed – it is ‘survival of the most interesting’. They grow and change colour depending on the number of views, comments and shares they receive. However, feechas that stop attracting attention will slowly shrink and fade away, clearing space for the better and stronger.
The potential uses for the app are varied and wide – from unsigned bands promoting their gigs; to a teenager organizing a casual game of footie with his neighbours; to a mother capturing a funny, spontaneous moment of her new born son; to the foodie sharing her favourite restaurant’s new dish; to alerting others nearby that something is on sale; to simply highlighting something cool that is happening nearby.
Feecha is now available free for all iPhone users with iOS running at 4.2 and above. Users can download it on the Apple App Store, iTunes or via www.feecha.com .
The Ching Chong Group plans to roll out an additional version for the Android platform soon.
Have I also mention that feecha users stands a chance to win $8,888? OH!

Polish designer Pjotr (pronounced ‘pyo-ter’, originating from Polish name Piotr/Peter) has created a basic line of androgynous and unisex styles with a modern concept. The ingenuity of the product was inspired from the idea to meet the everyday need. And this is one well-made, multi-wear clothing item that actually works in a frill-less and non-gimmicky manner, making it an easy and wearable piece.
In his fall 2011 campaign, Pjotr showcases his unisex garments through home-grown Polish faces — Kamil Milczarek and Julia Jedrzejewska.
This is ActuallyActually’s first venture into Polish labels and as always, it is excited to present young potential designers to its customers and friends. Pjotr basics will be available exclusively in 7 essential colours at ActuallyActually from end-November. All basics are retailing at S$155.
