Following in the footsteps of legends such as Paul Weller, Terry Hall and Damon Albarn came the inimitable Amy Winehouse. A British musical talent instantly recognisable for
her sense of style as much as her dark-stained soul vocals, gritty lyrics and biting wit, Winehouse was undeniably a one-woman cultural phenomenon.
This season, Fred Perry is proud to release a collection inspired by Amy’s original designs from 2010 in support of The Amy Winehouse Foundation. An uncompromising look that wears its heart on its sleeve, this collection is one that could only have been designed by an extraordinary musician. For a second time, Fred Perry is proud to present the Amy Winehouse Knitted dress, Tipped Knitted, and Bowling shirts respectively.
In addition to the pieces of this collection with heart embroidery inspired by Amy’s traditional tattoos, Fred Perry has commissioned Amy’s personal tattooist Henry Hate to create a piece of custom tattoo artwork inspired by traditional swallow tattoos and the logo of her eponymous Foundation which can also be seen embroidered on the iconic Fred Perry shirt style adapted by Amy herself as well as a red Gingham bowling shirt.
The Amy Winehouse Foundation works to prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse on young people. Offering support and information, and inspiring disadvantage young people to help them reach their full potential, The Amy Winehouse Foundation Collection will be available at the Fred Perry Authentic Shop at ION Orchard, #B3-01. Prices for this collection range from SGD159 to SGD209.

The inaugural event presents three-star Italian Michelin Chef, Massimiliano Alajmo, at Asia’s first Michelin chef showcase restaurant, CURATE.
As the Title Partner of Michelin Guide Singapore, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is proud to debut the first installation of Art at Curate, a Michelin star experience in partnership with Michelin Guide Singapore and Robert Parker Wine Advocate. Art at Curate will stage from 29 April to 6 May 2016 at Asia’s first Michelin chef showcase restaurant, CURATE, located at RWS.
CURATE, the latest addition to RWS culinary experience, provides a perennial stage exclusively for visiting Michelin-starred chefs from around the world to showcase their finest culinary creations. The inaugural edition of Art at Curate will feature three-star Italian Michelin chef, Massimiliano Alajmo.
Chef Alajmo started running his family restaurant, La Calandre, in Northern Italy in 1993 and clinched his three Michelin stars when he was just 28 years old, making him the youngest chef to achieve the highly coveted distinction. Today, the 42-year-old oversees the kitchens of La Calandre and the family’s other two restaurants, Ristorante Quadri and La Montecchi, with a total of five Michelin stars amongst them.
Well-known for his multi-sensory approach to cooking and penchant for exploring ingredients in depth to bring out their true essence and flavour, Chef Alajmo has a creative laboratory and culinary research centre within La Calandre. His dishes capture all senses, especially the most evocative sense of smell. According to Chef Alajmo, the ephemeral component of aroma is compensated by its immediacy and ability to create lasting memories, particularly in relation to food. With the selective use of exquisite seasonal ingredients, gourmands can expect distinctive food creations comparable to poetry on a plate.
Chef Alajmo is very excited to bring his culinary concept to Singapore. “Singapore is home to one of the world’s most dynamic food scenes. I am thrilled to explore it while I am in town and share with the people of this city both classic dishes from Le Calandre, as well as the fruit of our latest research,” said Chef Alajmo.
CURATE will present further editions of Art at Curate throughout the year, featuring modern European cuisines by a remarkable line-up of Michelin-starred chefs around the world. The visiting chefs will curate exclusive tasting menus at the restaurant throughout different times the year. During each edition, the chefs will also collaborate with a resident chef to create a signature menu to be served at the restaurant before the next event. With wine authority Robert Parker Wine Advocate, whose team of wine reviewers will personally hand-pick the wine pairings for the meals, the event will exclusively import limited edition and top-rated wines from the most sought-after producers around the world.
“With RWS as the Title Partner of Michelin Guide Singapore, we are very excited to bring this Michelin star experience to Singapore ahead of the highly anticipated launch. Through Art at Curate, epicureans will soon be able to indulge in Michelin-starred cuisines without having to travel around the world. We promise an exciting dining experience with every installation of Art at Curate,” said Mr Tan Hee Teck, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, RWS. “RWS will continue to innovate and create more unique dining experiences for our visitors, and work alongside Michelin Guide Singapore to showcase Singapore’s vibrant and diverse dining scene to the world,” added Mr Tan.
The first Art at Curate event will be held at CURATE located at Resorts World Sentosa (The Forum, Level 2) from 29 April to 6 May 2016. Prices range from SGD220++ (no wine pairing)/SGD280++ (with wine pairing) for four-course lunch to SGD380++ (no wine pairing)/SGD480++ (with wine and champagne pairing) for eight-course dinner. Strictly by booking only.

A unique approach to collaboration using the rich and extensive Marks & Spencer Company Archive in Leeds, UK Alexa and the M&S design team have embarked on a journey of rediscovery. This project is the first of the ‘M&S &’ series, unveiling a sequence of unique, exclusive collections in collaboration with some of today’s most exciting designers, brands and fashion icons.
“I have always had affection for Marks & Spencer. I am thrilled to be part of this special and unique project. There was something very touching about looking back through the British fashion and social history for which M&S is
synonymous,” said Alexa Chung.
Carefully curated and handpicked by Alexa and the M&S design team, this collection brings archive pieces back to life for 2016 using Alexa’s unique approach to style. Through introducing modern fabrications and an updated colour palette, a contemporary womenswear collection is now defined with a heritage sensibility. The supporting campaign will launch this month with Alexa herself taking creative ownership of the mood and direction.
“It was a hugely insightful experience allowing Alexa full access to our Company Archive. Marks & Spencer’s history is vast and quality design has always been paramount; therefore using our expertise and classic designs and Alexa’s unique eye and approach to style, our collaboration was born. A new womenswear collection, curated by Alexa, with heritage firmly at its heart,” said Steve Rowe, Executive Director of General Merchandise at Marks & Spencer.
In Singapore, the limited collection will debut on 14 April 2016 and will be available exclusively at M&S Wheelock Place. Prices start from SGD69.90.

To all our dedicated readers, followers, fans, and new faces… Thank you for staying, and welcome to a new world of fascination.
Last December, Nookmag decided to go on holiday; slow down, take a deep breath, and enjoy the little things in life. As we hit the end of the first quarter of 2016, we are now back as promised, budding with fresh ideas while holding on to our unconventional, quirky selves.
As we continue chasing passionate souls and sharing their stories, we have decided to also celebrate the unconventional little holidays in the year that most know nothing about. While we do not aim to be the first to know everything, we will definitely be the best at reminding you of upcoming wonders. After all, who really remembers what they’ve been told a month or two ago, right?
In celebrating our differences, we also would like to point out that from this month on, our Facebook, Instagram, and Nookmag.com pages will carry different types of content, with journals, upcoming releases, freebees for you, and more. If you decide to look at only one of the above, well… We’ve hinted.
Although we thrive on individuality and love questioning everyday norms, we decided to follow one norm and refrained from posting this on April Fool’s. This is NOT A JOKE.

What happens when you give an amateur chef 48 hours, a professional kitchen crew, and the chance to create an original three-course dinner for a restaurant full of guests to love, hate, scrutinize, and everything in between?
That’s right : Kilo Under Pressure.
First Under Pressure event
After a 4-year-hiatus, Under Pressure returns this April, once again offering home cooks, amateur chefs, or budding culinary geniuses the chance to helm a restaurant and bring their gourmet dreams to life. This time, the playing field is at Kilo Orchard, a change from the previous installment held at Kilo Kallang, but the game plan remains the same: daring individuals can submit their applications, and shortlisted candidates will face Kilo in an interview and tasting process. The chosen chef will have Kilo’s support to prepare for and serve a dinner menu of three to five courses during the biggest challenge — service night.
The inaugural event in 2011 saw Kilo Kallang packed to the brim with excited diners, and a night full of firsts for everyone. The heat was on: tempers flared in the face of unexpected challenges, reviews were mixed, some guests were left to wait, and there was even one table that walked out. But as the night progressed, the initial fluster receded with Nithiya, our first chef, increasing in her confidence and understanding of what it takes to steer a kitchen.
“I’m exhausted, but I’m excited that I did it, and proud of myself.”
With the Under Pressure series, Kilo wishes to present culinary hopefuls a chance to live out their dreams and experience cooking in a proper kitchen — intense, exhausting, and complete with all its joy and drama.
Kilo has always been about embracing experiences, both old and new, and bringing together people from all walks of life. In the same line, Kilo wishes to support fledgling talent across all industries, be it in F&B, music, or art, and offer them a platform to showcase their creations. The Cooking Beats events, for example, has seen Kilo opening their kitchen to up-and-coming guest chefs from all over the world; while Kilo Dialogues created a safe space for explorative, thought-provoking performances, talks, dialogue sessions, and more.
Ultimately, Kilo hopes to encourage experimentation, and support undiscovered talent. The upcoming Under Pressure will be held at the end of April, and will be a ticketed event where guests pay for a prix fixe menu. Diners can expect a menu reflective of the chef’s individuality, backed by Kilo’s staff. It may turn out turbulent, but we promise a night of fun, laughter, and great food. For enthusiastic home cooks and chefs, it’s time to turn up the pressure; this is the perfect opportunity to take your hobby to the next level.
Interested participants may contact Kilo with the following:
Applicants must be Singaporean/PR/possess a valid work permit, and must be 18 years old and above. Kindly submit any submissions and enquiries here.
Submissions close 10th April 2016.

The Most Powerful Phone with a Four-inch Display
Reinvented from the inside out, iPhone SE gives customers a powerful, full-featured iPhone no matter which model they choose. The 64-bit A9 chip, introduced in iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, offers iPhone SE customers two times faster CPU and three times faster GPU performance compared to iPhone 5s, all with gains in energy efficiency for improved battery life. M9, Apple’s next-generation motion coprocessor, is integrated into A9 allowing more features to run all the time at lower power, including “Hey Siri” without having to pick up your iPhone, and a range of fitness tracking capabilities like measuring your steps and distance. iPhone SE users can browse, download and stream content even faster with Wi-Fi up to three times and LTE up to 50 percent faster than iPhone 5s.* iPhone SE also includes more LTE bands for better worldwide roaming and supports Voice over LTE and Wi-Fi calling for high-quality wideband calls.

All of these innovations are packed into a light and compact phone designed to fit comfortably in your hand, crafted from bead-blasted aluminum for a satin-like finish, refined matte-chamfered edges, a new color-matched stainless steel inset Apple logo and a brilliant four-inch Retina® display.

iPhone SE has an advanced 12-megapixel iSight camera featuring Focus Pixel technology for fast focusing, an Apple-designed image signal processor, advanced noise reduction, third-generation local tone mapping and better face detection, all resulting in sharper, more detailed photos like the ones shot on iPhone 6s. With Live Photos on iPhone SE, customers can go beyond snapshots to capture moments in motion and relive unforgettable memories with sound. Live Photos are beautiful 12-megapixel photos that, with just a touch, reveal the moments immediately before and after the shot was taken, so users can enjoy a living memory rather than an instant frozen in time.

Moving with the times, in addition to a wide range of books, this new bookstore boasts dedicated sections that cater to the lifestyle needs of consumers, especially children and families.
Homegrown book retailer, Times, officially opened its seventh and biggest bookstore, spanning 7,335 sq ft, at Waterway Point in Punggol on Wednesday, 09 March 2016. Attended by nearly 200 guests, comprising members of the media, Times’ VIPs and business partners, this milestone occasion marked the brand’s entry into the North-Eastern heartland of Singapore with an exciting new concept that caters to the varied interests and ages of consumers, especially children and families.
Established in 1978, Times is a leading retailer of English language books and complementary products in the region with a chain of bookstores throughout Singapore and Malaysia. Times Waterway Point is the seventh bookstore in Singapore for the group. Adopting a cheerful orange palette, complemented by warm brown hues of wood structures and trims, this new bookstore exudes a welcoming and cosy vibe that makes browsing and shopping for books and lifestyle merchandise a delight.
Hosted by ex-ChannelNewsAsia anchor, Suzanne Jung, guests were treated to champagne and canapés as they arrived at the expansive bookstore, well-presented with a wide array of books of all genres, educational tools, collectible merchandise, lifestyle products and gift options. Besides the lifestyle editors of key media, familiar faces who turned up to join in the celebration included ex-veteran journalist and author Sylvia Toh Paik Choo, Class95 DJ Yasminne Cheng, ex-Singapore Idol alumni Maia Lee, homegrown illusionists Ning Cai and Alexander Yuen, amongst others.
In his welcome speech, Mr. Koh Poh Tiong, Chairman of Times Publishing Limited, thanked all guests for their support of Times and shared his leadership vision for growth and direction of the brand moving forward.
Singapore’s well-known celebrity mum, Diana Ser, was also introduced as the first Brand Advocate of Times. The partnership between these two household names was based on the shared vision of spreading the importance of both fun learning and bilingualism for children.
“This partnership with Times is particularly exciting because we are both Singapore brands united in our belief for children to learn through play. Together, Times and Crazy About Chinese will also bring new energy, ideas and resources to parents who are keen to nurture their children to be bilingual!”, said Diana.
Mr. Koh and Diana were joined by Mr. Anthony Cheong (F&N Group Company Secretary), Mr. Siew Peng Yim (Chief Executive Officer of Times Publishing Limited) and Ms. Helen Lek (Head of Retail for Times Publishing Limited) in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a celebratory champagne toast, to officiate the opening.
Guests were then treated to a special surprise appearance by a bevy of iconic characters that came to life from the world of books. Alice in Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes, Superman, Batman, Little Red Riding Hood, Little Mermaid, Elsa and Olaf drew spontaneous applause and delightful cheers from both children and the young-at-heart alike as they made their way to the stage. As they collectively strike their signature poses, guests readily took the opportunity to take photos of these endearing characters.
After the official opening, guests were invited to explore the bookstore that houses the very first Times Junior, a dedicated fun learning and social space of nearly 1,600 sq ft for children to browse, read and interact with other children or bond with their parents over books. Another key feature of the bookstore is the one-of-its-kind Lifestyle Space that can be transformed into a private room to conduct workshops, classes, activities and even small celebration parties for children and families.
To further illustrate the fun vibe and creative environment at Times, four stations, each with an engaging activity, were set up around the bookstore for guests to partake in. They included a personalised wire bookmark-making station where guests’ names were formed using a wire that can be used as a bookmark; a cocoa “mug” cake-making station for those with a sweet tooth; an Elmo and Cookie Monster pom-pom making station that was highly-popular with children; and a customised aromatherapy oil station that helped guests pick out the scent that they like best, be it for relaxation or to refresh themselves.
All in all, the new Times at Waterway Point, with its inviting concept, wide range of books and interesting lifestyle merchandise, has shown that it is more than just a bookstore. It has exceeded the expectations of many guests who candidly gave the thumbs-up and positive comments as they had enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

Singapore’s first Eco-mall continues to champion Earth Hour
On 19 March 2016, City Square Mall will be joining hundreds of millions across the globe in celebrating Earth Hour. As part of the mall’s commitment to environmental sustainability, all non-essential lights would be switched off from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday evening.
This year, the Mall will also commemorate Earth Hour with the community through fun and educational activities catered for all in the family. From 7pm onwards, the public can engage in creative fun by learning how to turn recycled materials into useful items such as coin banks and pen holders. They can also participate in stage games, where they would be tested on their knowledge about water conservation. These activities aim to highlight the severity of climate change, as well as educate the public on the importance of recycling and water conservation.
As the lights go out at 8.30pm, families will be treated to an outdoor screening of Ice Age at the Basement 1 Fountain Square. Join the team of sub-zero heroes as they band together to save a human infant, during a time when the Earth was overrun by freezing temperatures that sent all manner of critters scattering in the path of encroaching glaciers.
|Instead of throwing away old and unwanted materials and items, participants can use their creativity and turn them into useful items such as plastic bottle coin bank and toilet roll pen holder.|

|Take part in the Water Conservation Quiz and win prizes sponsored by Public Utilities Board.|

NATO straps are flexible and practical, but they certainly lack a healthy dose of personality. Thus, when graphic designer Ivan Chua yearned for a way to customize the looks of his favourite wristwatches, VARIO was born.
With the help of his team, Ivan designed a selection of 10 unique printed themes in 3 different sizes (18,20,22mm) for his custom VARIO straps. When asked why he decided on using NATO straps, Ivan cited his experience with them as “comfortable, washable, and the perfect material for summer heat”.
However, embarking on a new business is never easy. As such, the young designer has turned to crowdfunding on platform indiegogo in order to raise a total fund value of USD5,000 for his campaign.
17 Days Countdown
In order to achieve his goal of creating their first collection, Ivan hopes that interested collectors can assist by ordering Vario watch straps at a discount of up to 40%, as once available to the public, each strap will retail at US$32; as well as share their campaign on social media sites to help generate the buzz needed for this venture to succeed.

The O.P.E.N is looking for a tribe of committed participants to be in the first ever performance of Speak Cryptic’s iconic artwork.
The Singapore International Festival of Arts’ pre-festival public engagement initiative – The O.P.E.N., will be held from June 23 to July 9 this year.
One of the highlights of The O.P.E.N. – Club Malam, is an immersive evening, made up of several interweaving performances by several artists in collaboration with Noorlinah Mohamed, Director of The O.P.E.N. Inspired by the night club scenes of the 50s and 60s, and yet different, Club Malam offers a series of ‘happenings’, popping up within the space, giving the audience a sense of the imagined world created in Club Malam. One of four anchor pieces for Club Malam is Speak Cryptic’s The Tribe, the first-ever performance inspired by his iconic characters that are featured in his art works. The intention is to have each character be brought alive by 100 public participants, breathing and living, among the ‘visitors’ of Club Malam.
As such, the O.P.E.N. seeks fun-loving, passionate and curious-minded individuals as performers of Speak Cryptic’s The Tribe. Auditions will be held on 19 March. Successful participants will then begin rehearsals (only on Saturdays) from 26 March till 2 July. Technical set-up and runs from 4, 5 and 6 July. Performance dates – 7, 8, 9 July.
No performance experience is required but the minimum age for participants is 18 years. For details please email or call the organiser at +65 9397 7113.

NEW SPRING 2016 COLLECTION FEATURES ORIGINAL FUTURA ARTWORK
ON CHUCK II SNEAKERS, APPAREL AND ACCESSORIES
27 February, 2016 – Today, CONVERSE. unveils its first ever collaboration on the revolutionary Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II with American artist Futura. Featuring original artwork by the legendary Brooklyn-based artist, the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II Futura Collection takes the technological and comfort advances of Chuck II a step further with the addition of new veneering and Converse weatherized rubber, creating a sneaker that is truly ready for more. Designed for both function and fashion, the collection combines Futura’s iconic abstract art style with a weather-ready sneaker, apparel and accessories collection that’s built for the next generation of self-expression.
A pioneer in graffiti art, Futura’s work is synonymous with ingenuity, originality and the NYC downtown art scene of the early ’80s. His work over the last 30 years has transitioned from the street, to the subway, and today into galleries all around the world. The new collection features camo printed rip-stop underlay and Futura’s distinct graphic artwork on the sneaker’s upper, lace and midsole. Available in both hi-top and ox, the Chuck II Futura has water resistant full rubber uppers and reflective laces. The Chuck II’s characteristic Nike Lunarlon sockliner received its own graphic treatment and each sneaker includes a second set of foot-beds with collectible art.
“I wanted to create a Chuck II that embodied my approach to art and life,” said Futura, aka Lenny McGurr. “From the camo to the weatherized rubber, this collection is made for function and style, for getting out on the streets and unleashing your creativity. I’m honored to have the first opportunity to riff on the Chuck II silhouette.”
In addition to the Chuck II footwear, the collection also features weather-ready apparel including a raglan tee updated with Futura’s signature graphic and matching camo design. In a nod to Futura’s graffiti roots and street style, a ski mask featuring reversible Converse camo in heavyweight woven cotton was also created as part of the collection.
The Spring 2016 Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II Futura Collection will be available for purchase starting Monday, February 27, 2016 at selected Limited Edition Outlets. The footwear will retail for SGD149.90 – SGD159.90 with apparel at SGD69.90.
Futura (American, b. 1955), alias of Leonard McGurr, is an artist currently living and working in New York and closely associated with the street art movement of the 1980s. Preceding the year 2000, the artist referred to himself as Futura 2000, a moniker he coined at the age of 15. Following the millennium, he shortened his pen name to Futura, as he is now known. An active participant in the graffiti movement as a youth, he made the transition to a more abstract canvas in 1980, with particular motivations to transcend the barriers between street, commercial and fine art. His works explore the disjointed but seemingly coordinate worlds of the gallery space and street art through a series of largely abstract compositions drawing on both street and fine art.
