Converse rocked Haji Lane on February 24, 2012 with a smashing street party to celebrate the launch of the Gorillaz footwear collaboration. Spinning the night away with heart-thumping adrenaline-inducing tracks, DJ Koflow set the tune for the night as party-goers joined in the fun.
Gorillaz was undoubtedly the stars of the night. The highlight of the street party was a showcase of the Gorillaz footwear collection in local street-wear boutique Sup. Launched in February 2012, the four different styles from the Spring 2012 collection combine the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star silhouette with the band’s legendary graphic images.
Party-goers were also able to discover more about Gorillaz and its music through the exhibits. At the climax of the party, the Converse “Three Artists. One Song” original track titled “DoYaThing” featuring Gorillaz, James Murphy and Andre 3000 of OutKast was unveiled to much anticipation from the crowd. The free track is currently available for download at www.converse.com.
Throughout the party, the VIPs were treated to a game of Guitar Heroes as well as some food and drinks in the VIP lounge where they were able to chill out on comfy bean bags.
As a tribute to Gorillaz, eminent street artist Luthfi aka The Killer Gerbil performed a ‘live’ graffiti art work of the Gorillaz signature and the band’s trademark camouflage design as the background. Fans were also rewarded with prizes from a raffles draw where Converse vouchers for Gorillaz footwear, Gorillaz CDs and posters were presented to the lucky winners.
The Converse X Gorillaz exhibition is on display at Sup till 29 February 2012. Priced at SGD$89.90, the Gorillaz footwear collection is now available at Converse ION Orchard, Converse Orchard Central, Converse Tampines Mall, Converse Queensway and Converse VivoCity.
