Esteemed local photographer Sean Lee presents a solo exhibition titled ‘Homework – Beyond the Laughter’ at Chan Hampe Gallery this month. His latest series of work is a sequel to his ‘Homework’ collection that earned him the winning trophy of the prestigious ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu 2011 photography competition.
‘Homework – Beyond the Laughter’ uses humour, domestic objects and the medium of photography to entertain audiences through the ‘therapy’ of laughter. With his family members gamely posing in absurd and bizarre situations, Sean never fails to keep his work close to his heart and his imagination alive and kicking. [And I can’t help falling in love with how sporting his parents are. Kudos uncle and aunty!] His work is as real as it seems as there was no use of fancy settings and locations. Sean’s images were mostly captured in his humble bedroom.
At 26 years old, Sean is already making a name for himself globally, with eight international solo exhibitions in Singapore, Turkey, Spain, France and Cambodia and nine group shows in India, Turkey, USA, Singapore, Cambodia and France. Sean has also been a recipient of several international art prizes and scholarships. He will also be showing ‘Homework – Beyond the Laughter’ in Istanbul later this year.
‘Homework – Beyond the Laughter’ by Sean Lee will be exhibited at Chan Hampe Gallery (27 Kreta Ayer Road) till 24 April 2012.
