The art of timeless minimalism lies in the DNA of Leather Factory Roberu’s designs. After silently honing its leather craft and fulfilling the needs and desires of leather aficionados in its homeland and beyond, Leather Factory Roberu has finally made its way into the hearts of artisan leather product lovers in Singapore.
Lauded for its use of understated designs with utilitarian durability, the Japanese leather brand is also a strong advocate of environmental friendliness as it chooses leather materials that are tanned and dyed organically.
Founder of Leather Factory Roberu, Shinji Iwamoto started out by hand-crafting leather wallets that received favourable reviews from his peers. This spurred him on to hone his leather craft, which subsequently led to the creation of other leather products and the birth of Leather Factory Roberu.
The initial designing of a product usually occurs in Shinji’s mind as he imagines the form of his creation and how it would enhance the consumers’ use of it. For example, Roberu’s mobile phone pouches are designed to allow consumers to pull out their phones effortlessly.
Being an avid photographer, Shinji’s favourite creation is the intricately crafted camera straps. These camera straps/holders are designed and made to be fitted smoothly onto camera models specially selected by the man himself.
As part of Leather Factory Roberu’s official debut in Singapore, Peek! presented a Masterclass Series featuring the skilled masters from the brand. Three intimate sold-out sessions were held at the close of May where participants learnt the skill of leather stitching. At the end of the sessions, students contentedly brought home their very own hand-stitched iPhone case.
It is not common to chance upon a business that firmly stands by its roots and beliefs. Never losing grip of its style, Shinji is certain that Leather Factory Roberu will continue producing items of the same exceptional quality even after 10 or 20 years.
Leather Factory Roberu is exclusively available at Peek! Galleria (36 Armenian Street, #01-04 Singapore 179934). A special collaboration line of leather accessories with fellow artisan leather shoemaker, Anchor Bridge Leather Products has also been unveiled in the store.
