Inspired by William Farquhar’s Natural History Drawings, Nutmeg & Clove has unveiled four cocktails to celebrate Singapore’s 52nd National Day. Furthermore, Nutmeg & Clove has designated these drinks as Cocktails of the Month, meaning that guests to the bar can enjoy each drink 1 for 1 during Happy Hour.
William Farquhar’s research into Singapore’s national history is compiled in the book “Natural History Drawings: The Complete William Farquhar Collection, Malay Peninsula 1803-1818”, which features 477 illustrations of Singapore’s flora and fauna. The King and Queen, The Galangal Beer, Oh My Jasmine, and Bay Side (priced at $22 each) pay homage to this collection with each drink featuring either native herbs, spices, fruits, and flowers.
Each of the four cocktails is local twist on a classic. A twist on the Milk Punch, The King and Queen, is named after the King and Queen of fruits, durian and mangosteen, which are used in this drink. The Galangal Beer ̧ a take on the Moscow Mule, is a spicy mix of Mount Gay
Black Barrel infused with galangal, house-made spiced pear syrup, fresh lime and housemade galangal ginger beer. Oh My Jasmine features housemade jasmine syrup, and matcha is a spin on a Scotch Sour; while the Bay Side uses Botanist Gin infused with bay leaves for a herbal take on the South Side.
Nutmeg and Clove’s National Day menu is a prelude to the bar’s menu revamp in October 2017. From the current sections depicting Singapore progression from trade outpost to modern metropolis, the new menu will be broken down into four different sections – Fruit, Spice, Herbs, and Flowers, each highlighting an aspect of Singapore’s biodiversity.
