After a successful conquest in the city (ION Orchard), Marmalade Pantry rides right up into the lush greenery surrounding Bukit Timah Saddle Club to set up its second camp known handsomely as Pantry at the Stables.
Tucked away from the madding crowds in the city, Pantry at the Stables offers a unique dining locale surrounded by the rare natural setting of Singapore’s country-side at Fairways Drive.
If you are adventurous and a little insane (like yours truly), try taking a hike in from the main road and witness the gradual transition of scenery from a familiar urban jungle to a gorgeous landscape of plain fields and trotting horses. Your brain plummets into a sudden respite and you know that you are in for a greater treat.
Pantry at the Stables is housed in a casual chic setting of a stylish colonial terrace. Guests have the option of getting comfy and cosy in the main dining room or enjoying nature’s breeze while going alfresco.
Dinner is a casual intimate affair. Keeping with its successful formula of providing diners with comfort luxury food, Pantry at the Stables continues to set the pace with its promise of contemporary bistro cuisine prepared with fresh seasonal produce. Expect nothing less – this is what our taste buds confirm after being treated to a tasting session of its signature dishes.
And what better way to savour the freshness of the produce than to start with a plate of salad? The crowd favourite Mexican Chicken Salad (SGD22) is served refreshingly cold with crispy tortilla, avocado, spiced corn and salsa. These ingredients effortlessly spice up the texture and taste of the dish.
On the mains, a must-try is the Spaghetti Carbonara (SGD24). This unique version of the traditional Italian dish sees a poached egg perched atop a mound of spaghetti in cream sauce. Burst the egg yolk and allow its flavour to sink in deep. A simple addition but what a difference it makes to the entire dish! Who cares if it’s sinful when the tip of your tongue squeals in delight at the very first taste?
The ultimate comfort food at its best is the Steak and Eggs on a skillet with smashed peas (SGD38). No, it is not another piece of steak. Nicely seasoned, the flavourful meat is crusty on the outside and tender on the inside – an extremely pleasant surprise when you chow it down.
For the sweet tooth at heart, the menu includes a wide selection of desserts that does not fail to impress. Specials include the refreshing Lemon Brûlée Tart (SGD14) and the all time favourite Sticky Date and Toffee Pudding served with vanilla ice cream (SGD12). Homely and unconventional, the Sticky Date and Toffee Pudding is comfortingly moist on the inside and is an instant remedy for any sweet cravings. Who needs chocolates now?
