Every B-Boy desires to shine in his own right, in his own style, in his own light. The Red Bull BC One has become a prestigious B-Boying competition since its birth in 2004, setting up stages in cities around the globe for B-Boys to flaunt their flair for the dance. Going back to the roots of B-Boying, the competition consistently attracts the best in the world and gives every B-Boy, celebrated or unknown, an equal chance to compete.
Judged for their originality, technique and stage presence, the B-Boys wore their attitude and style at the edge of their sleeves. While the stage heated up with the boys’ intense ‘fight’ to outshine each other, all that ‘hate’ immediately melted into brotherly love once they got off stage. This perfectly captures the spirit and beauty of the dance.
During a chat session with Nookmag, the judges cheekily displayed their distinct personalities and style. Urging the B-Boys to represent themselves and their culture in their dance style, they shared the same sentiments in the importance of being real in the scene.
Cico commented, “It is so nice to see that all the competitors are so young in South East Asia. Because it is such a young scene, B-Boying in Asia can only grow bigger and competitions like Red Bull BC One Cyphers will help give them the competitive edge that they need to keep them sharp and on their feet.”
The *European Red Bull is now committed to hold local cyphers in countries within South East Asia every year. “We brought Red Bull BC One series to Asia because we want to give Asian B-Boys a platform to nurture and further their talent. We flew in Red Bull BC One All Stars Cico and Pelezinho for a series of workshops in Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore so they could inspire and impart their knowledge for the next generation of B-Boys,” said a Red Bull spokesperson.
