Singapore and Japan meets in the form of a sartorial collaboration. Local design studio Somewhere Else has collaborated with Japanese fashion retailer GU to produce four graphic tees – a first for the local studio.
Mixing typography and photography, the tees are available in four unique designs: Further, Raconteur, Dharma Bums, and Tomorrows – each representing a bit of Somewhere Else. These are complemented with snippets from Somewhere Else founder and director Yong’s travel photos.
Further features a narrow and treacherous path, but ultimately tells the story of moving forward. Raconteur illustrates stories and dreams, floating before they become reality. Dharma Bums, a reference to Jack Kerouac’s 1958 novel about seeking balance, represents the chaos of modern life. Wrapping things up is Tomorrows, inspired by Somewhere Else’s modus operandi and philosophy – “anywhere but here and now”. It is a hint of promise.
Retailing at GU for SGD8 each, each design comes in three colourways.
