37 Seconds – Mei Kayama
In this film set to launch on 31 January, amateur actress Mei Kayama plays a young woman with cerebral palsy. Her character as 23-year-old Yuma Takada is a talented artist who struggles to lead a self-determined life, and is torn between family obligations and her dream to become a manga artist. While a sympathetic magazine editor tells Takada that her art is technically proficient, he criticises her depictions of sex as unconvincing and tells her to lose her virginity before returning to try again.
