This Spring, Palladium’s signature boot gets a revamp SBTG-style. The collaboration with Mark Ong, who is also known to those in the art and sneaker customisation scene as Mr. SBTG, brilliantly merges Mark’s love for military-type style with a brand teeming with heritage.
The result is SBTG’s signature Parsillia camo pattern screen-printed onto Palladium’s Pampa Oxford, Pampa Hi, and Baggy. These 12-ounce cotton canvas kickers are a different terrain for SBTG, who mostly works with sneakers. We speak to him to find out more.
Nookmag: Hey Mark! You’ve worked on so many notable footwear brands. What sets Palladium apart from the rest?
Mark: In the past, I mostly worked on sneakers. Palladium is very different as it’s more like a boot but with the comfort and flexibility of a sneaker. The look is totally different yet it feels the same.
Nookmag: The Palladium x SBTG boots feature screen-printed leaf camo patterns. What is the significance of this pattern?
Mark: This Parsilia camo pattern holds a lot of significance to the SBTG brand. You can see it in most of our past collaboration products like sneakers, camera straps and bearbricks dating as far back as 2006. Back then, we chose to use it as a texture to brand our products. Much like the Louis Vuition monogram, we wanna use this for a long long time.
Nookmag: What do you get out of a collaboration – mentally, creatively, and emotionally?
Mark: In most collaborations, aside from helping each other reach a wider audience, we develop new relationships. It always reminds me to “care” for the things i do in general – such as feelings, design and what kind of impression we create unknowingly.
Nookmag: Palladium is about adventure and discovery. What would you like your next adventure to be, and what would you like to discover?
Mark: I think when you are doing what you love for a living, life itself is already an adventure. In my journey, I would constantly like to discover new ways of expressing my work and inspire people.
Nookmag: Lastly, share with us a few outfits to pair the Palladium x SBTG boots with!
Mark: When I designed the Palladium collection, I thought about my outfit a lot. One of my main considerations was to release a design that doesn’t interfere with my outfit. To me, a good design is when you dont have to change your outfit to match the shoes. I like to wear a lot of black, olives, camouflages with subtle red or yellow accents.
Prices for the SBTG x Palladium collection range from SGD99 and SGD119.
