As we’ve shared our mooncake list for Malaysia over the weekend, here’s a Singaporean version for our friends on this side of the border!
Over the years, mooncakes have evolved from the traditional baked single-yolk versions to include double yolks, quadruple yolks and eventually, snowskin delights were introduced with chocolate crafted “yolks” instead. Among all the fancy flavours that are now available on the market, durian flavoured mooncakes have almost become a Mid-Autumn staple in most households. With virtual food festivals and all manner of food items being sold online as well as offline these days, let’s join in the crowd and check out the following brands!
Durian Edition’s D.Lab has partnered with Chef Daniel Tay (of Cat & the Fiddle Cakes fame) this year to create three mouth-watering mooncakes filled with tea, durians, and gold! With a recommendation to consume the flavours in the following order, read on to discover the durian cultivars that have captured our hearts and palates this year.

After all, how can we do a mooncake pairing without tea?

This year, Yàn marks the annual celebration with a signature collection of five traditional mooncakes and a snowskin creation, of which, the Thousand Layer Yam Mooncake is our favourite. Imagine crisp, golden swirls of pastry enclosing a fragrant filling of sweet yam paste, to either be eaten plain or with a single yolk for a lovely savoury contrast. All orders for this meticulously handcrafted delicacy should be placed one day in advance, as the pastries are freshly made for each customer.
Yàn’s mooncake collection is available as a set of four (SGD68), presented in a two-tiered box with a subtle geometric fan motif, offered in an enchanting shade of midnight blue that evokes moonlit skies during a full moon. The chest, which includes a velveted ring holder section, can also be refreshed as a jewellery or keepsake box after the festival. For those looking for simpler gift sets, boxes of two mooncakes in vibrant parcels are available as well.
