Wouldn’t it be great to have a drink without worrying about high sugar content or gaining weight? That’s why The Butter Factory ART BAR’s new series of cocktails is amazing. What’s special is their promise to be scant on the calories, with half consisting of “skinny” cocktails and the other, signature cocktails. This new series feature 10 special drinks exclusively concocted by top mixologist Ethan Leslie Leong (of Maison Ikkoku, who ranks amongst the world’s best).
Skinny Cocktails
Tailored to fit the weight-conscious, this new range of “skinny” cocktails is low in calories. For instance, Cocoa Made Me Do It, a French-caramel tinged, coffee-based cocktail fits the bill just right with only 136 calories. That’s less than half the calories in a large Coke!
Besides creating low-calories cocktails, Leong also packages the drinks embodying the club’s motto to be artful, original, and interesting in both taste and experience. Just take a look at how the cocktails are served!
The Slimane, a white mint liqueur ensemble, is cool inside and out and comes served in a quaint Three Legs Cooling Water bottle, the well-known South East Asian drink purported to cure “heatiness”, apt enough when it leaves a minty and cool feeling down your throat. The Grapefruit Gamine is a refreshing berry/citrus combination that stands cleverly between the saccharine and the sour.
The Hazelnut Waif, which comes served in a metal mug and crushed ice, resembles ice kachang and brings to mind pleasant experiences at a Singaporean dessert stall. The final skinny cocktail includes the Slavender, which is an Earl-Grey-infused, gin delight served in a coffee shop takeaway bag with a straw.
Signature Cocktails
One of the most-requested cocktails, the Bloody Warhol, (a delicious twist on the Bloody Mary that tastes like an Italian restaurant with a splash of vodka) comes served in an ‘upcycled’ Campbell’s Soup can –making an obvious reference to Andy Warhol’s 1962 piece Campbell’s Soup Cans. It is Art Bar after all!
Other crowd-pleasers include cocktails like the Yoko Mojito and the Gin Martin are amongst the most-ordered drinks on the menu. The Yoko Mojito, christened as such to allude to the hippie Yoko Ono – calling attention to the floral profile of the secret recipe Chrysanthemum rum.
The Gin Martin, which mixes dry gin and sloe gin, served in a Capri-Sonne-like packet is another favourite that is an adept concoction with broad enough appeal to capture both you and your other half with an aversion to gin.
Order Ocean Spray and be taken aback at how the cocktail is served. This Barcadi Oakheart delight is served in a kopitiam-esque ceramic cup-and- saucer combination that has a salty surprise when you lick the foam off your upper lip after taking your first sip.
The final signature cocktail on the menu is the Cherry Richardson, made with bourbon and cherry liqueur and served in a pepper-shaker, is delicate on the palate. Perfect for the ladies.
