On July 13, 2021 / By NookmagThis National Day, let’s raise a Tiger to each other in a toast to beating the odds and moving forward together into better times. Tiger’s very own National Day Brew, the Tiger Orchid Brew, is back in bloom for the second year running to uncage positivity and instil pride in Singaporeans with a fresh new look designed by local musician and artist, Narelle Kheng.
Uncaging local pride and positivity
The Tiger Orchid Brew is a symbolic representation of Singapore’s strength and resilience. Inspired by the indomitable Singapore spirit and infused with orchids, the full-flavoured lager boasts light floral notes with a touch of citrus, making it the perfect toast to Singapore’s birthday.
Uncaging unexpected local talent
Aiming to champion local talents by providing them with a platform to shine, Tiger has once again worked with a home-grown talent to create the visually striking and symbolic Tiger Orchid Brew design. The 2021 edition sees a unique collaboration with local musician and artist Narelle Kheng as the illustrator of Tiger Orchid Brew’s cans and 4-can pack packaging. This marks Narelle’s first foray into uncaging her hidden passion in the visual arts.
With a passion for Singapore and Tiger Beer, Narelle wanted to illustrate an intersection between the joyful camaraderie of beer with her ideal of Singapore. The resulting pastel neon “fizzy jungle” represents positivity, happiness, achievement and enjoying a boldly refreshing Tiger after working hard.
The 2021 limited-edition Tiger Orchid Brew is now available in 4-can packs (recommended retail price at SGD11.70) at all leading supermarkets, mini marts, convenience stores, and online channels island-wide until 31 August. The Tiger Orchid Brew is also exclusively available in draught format at Tiger Street Lab at Jewel Changi Airport and selected Harry’s outlets from 19 July, while stocks last.

On February 24, 2014 / By SimcikOfficially launched in 2012, JinnyboyTV is a Youtube sensation from our neighbour up north. Based in the capital of Malaysia, JinnyboyTV has consistently churned out entertaining and humorous videos such as ABUDEN & ONLY IN MALAYSIA that reflect their country and its adored imperfections. It doesn’t hurt that these videos are hit-generating too, some amassing over 8,000,000 views from audiences worldwide.
JinnyboyTV consists of Jin Lim, better known as Jinnyboy, and Reuben Kang. Jin, the self-proclaimed slacker, is a full time Radio DJ on the popular Hitz.FM’s morning show while Reuben Kang is a lecturer at Institute of Advertising and Communication and TV host on Malaysia’s cable TV ASTRO‘s Football Overload.
Jinnyboy and Reuben from JinnyboyTV
Jinnyboy is not that much of a slacker though. Together with Rueben, the duo behind JinnyboyTV was commissioned by the Singapore Tourism Board to film a video showcasing our “hipster” locations – or in other words, places unmapped by tourist handbook Lonely Planet.
Not only does this mark the expanding influence of the social media personalities, it also reflects the friendly similarities between Malaysia and Singapore. Malaysian and Singaporean quirks aren’t that far apart, as evident from JinnyboyTV’s videos.
I have been a fan since early 2012 and don’t take my word for it, you can verify it here. So when I knew that Jinnyboy and Reuben were coming to town last Saturday, I had to catch up with them at the Flesh Imp flagship store at Scape . The conversation revolved around how the duo are liking Singapore and what goes on behind their work.
From left to right: Jinnyboy , Nicholas (Flesh Imp), Reuben, Vincent (Flesh Imp) and Simcik (Nookmag)
Asked to throw out a few words to describe Singapore, Jin and Reuben quoted – in the most local manner they could muster – “KUA SIMI KUA!” and “Chio Bu…”. You judge for yourself if they pulled that off in our video interview.
What a man or a woman carries with them can tell you a lot about their personalities, and so I took the opportunity to take a peek into Jinnyboy and Reuben’s bags to see what they carry around as daily essentials. Their possessions are surprisingly few and Jinnyboy doesn’t even carry a bag. Hmm..
Reuben’s daily essentials: Herschel backpack, Macbook Pro, Tissot Watch, Samsung S4, Burberry Wallet, and a pen for doodling
Jin’s daily essentials: G-Shock Watch, Canon 5D DSLR, Iphone, LV Wallet

On February 14, 2014 / By NookmagThe Chrome brand came from humble beginnings. A simple juki sewing machine, a few yards of cordura, and truck tarpaulin – although, this was quality military grade. This simplicity was bounded by one commitment, and that is to make bombproof gear for bike messengers, fixed freestyle riders, and everyone else who wanted a durable bag to store their most valuable possessions.
Two decades on, this commitment has not faltered. Chrome is not about fashion, it is about utility and mobility, and this is at the core of every design. Chrome’s Citizen Messenger Bag is one design urban commuters around the world covet.
And why wouldn’t it be? With their innovations like load stabilising strap, five bar webbing, the iconic quick release buckle, and dual wall construction – the Citizen Messenger Bag is a prime example of what Chrome gives you. Plus, it features a weatherproof outer shell and military-grade truck-tarpaulin liner.
Other features include daisy-chain mounting loops for attaching carabineer or bike lights, and an industrial-strength Velcro, accessory-mounting shoulder strap. To ensure comfort, Chrome has added an EVA foam-padded shoulder strap with a cross-chest load stabilizer for increased rideability.
There is also an integrated bottle opener (something that will come in handy on a sunny day or a night out with your buddies), internal fasteners and tactical sleeves for securing up to 17” laptops, and reflective straps for night visibility.
The Chrome Citizen Messenger Bag is available at The Bag Creature, Velocity@Novena
#02-48, 238 Thomson Road, for $195. Sounds like the bag for you? We’re giving one away to a lucky reader! To take part in this contest, simply fill in the form below with your details and answer the question that follows. One winner will be selected at random, based on the correct answer. Contest ends 21 February 2014.
The journey of Miguel Gutierrez, also known as The Nomad Barber, began when he decided to search for the origins and traditions of barbershops in various countries
On January 14, 2014 / By Sulhan S
The journey of Miguel Gutierrez, also known as The Nomad Barber, began when he decided to search for the origins and traditions of barbershops in various countries and regions around the world.
As an award-winning barber with many notable appearances in the fashion industry (the remarkable Ozwald Boeteng show at London Fashion Week being one of them), Miguel has styled many models, actors and other high-profile executives. He was also the key hair-stylist for Mirror’s single, “Broken by Silence”.
The Nomad Barber project consists of only one barber and one cameraman, both of whom aim to travel through five continents during twelve months. From Athens, where he learnt about Greek barbers – the first to bring classic barbering to Europe – to Turkey, and even the gateway to Middle East, Miguel dedicates this time to discovering the history and craft of barbering by talking to barbers and other individuals.
Miguel set out on his journey with no expectations. Through his travels and the stories he has heard along the way, he is surprised to learn that people from all over the world are similar on numerous aspects.
For those who aren’t familiar with you, can you tell us more about who you are and what you do?
My name’s Miguel Gutierrez AKA The Nomad Barber. I’m currently travelling the world over 12 months and discovering the secrets from within the barbershops I visit.
How did this project for The Nomad Barber come about?
It came about when I wanted to combine film, barbering and travel and the rest all just fell into place. I actually hired Mike off a TV and film website. He applied and I took him on. The rest is history.
How was the initial process like in terms of preparation?
For me it was a process of hard work and determination from 11 months before I left, until now. Mike was busy working in the film industry until we left so it was a solo mission up until that point.
How has the experience differed from your initial expectations?
I didn’t have any specific expectations, I knew it’d be an adventure of a lifetime and it has proved to be right. The only thing that has surprised me is how people are so similar across the globe.
What about barbering and travel ignites a passion in you?
Barbering was something I fell into at the age of 16 after a visit to Instash and have never looked back. The travelling part came later when I did some backpacking but combining the 2 is basically a dream job.
Some barbers acquire experience by renting a chair in a barbershop, and others stock up on credentials. What other advice do you have for amateur barbers?
Others train for 10 years and perfect their skill and then move forward. It’s all specific to the person. My advice would just be do what makes you happy.
What do you have to say about the comeback of barbering and looking immaculate?
It’s a massive revival and I think it’s great for the industry. Trends come and go though so I’ll still be here when it dies out. And I’ll still be doing the same thing.
It’s definitely been a great pleasure having you here in Singapore, could you tell us a quick summary of your experience and what’s next for The Nomad Barber?
Next is 9 more countries and then home to open my first shop. I’m super excited. Singapore has been incredible, I’ve met some friends for life and the barber scene is on the up. Also Singaporean men know what they want, and that’s to look good.

On Friday the 13th, spooky ghouls roamed along the shops of Haji Lane… just kidding. Haji Lane saw the coolest street party of the year that Friday, courtesy of SUP Clothing, PEONFX, and The Killer Gerbil.
As a celebration of their 10th year being the best of friends, the three finally launched the much anticipated capsule collection – Death Rouleur. With the Redbull truck pulled up and the DJ deck set up, the launch cum street party started straight away. The crowd wasted no time chugging down the big-bottled ARCHA beers.
DJ Fai Sof was rocking the decks all night, with the guests bobbing their heads to the cool tunes. Inside the store, Killer Gerbil was signing off a signature tag on one of the cruiser boards. Over 200 good folks attended the street party, with non-stop purchases from the Death Rouleur collection. Their Wolfmeow tee was sold out within two hours, and the bucket hats were a big hit.
Halfway through the party, Aaron from PEONFX made a passionate speech about the friendship, introducing Acit, the founder of PEONFX, the talented Killer Gerbil, and the team from SUP Clothing. This speech quickly turned into a mad frenzy of guests flaunting their dance moves. The good music by DJ Fai soon attracted passerby who had no qualms about joining in the fun.
A gentle breeze. An unanticipated sunflower by the street. A mellow wave washing out to shore. These are the simple wonders of nature that come to mind
On December 31, 2013 / By Gracie
A gentle breeze. An unanticipated sunflower by the street. A mellow wave washing out to shore. These are the simple wonders of nature that come to mind as I ponder about the impression that Michelle Chan, the brainchild of local label Weekend Sundries, has left on me.
A designer who truly translates her style and beliefs into the garments she creates, Michelle also spends a great deal of effort discovering how people move and feel so that consumers can connect with her designs. To her, clothes should make you feel good and comfortable, with lots of freedom to move – one reason why Japanese cotton has been widely used in her apparels. Her down-to-earth approach towards designing has undoubtedly resulted in the creation of classic, timeless and laid-back collections.
She feels a sense of fulfilment when she witnesses her consumers having their own take with her clothes, wearing and accessorising in a way that is relevant to their lives. And of course, allowing their distinct personalities to shine through as well.
At the end of the day, what matters most to Michelle is how Weekend Sundries is able to inject a sense of fun and lightness in consumers’ lives and make them look effortlessly good. No one should feel restricted by rigid fashion rules – a sense of liberation should always trump that.
Michelle says, “Weekend Sundries is tailored towards the notion of respite, deliberately refraining from the in-your-face, in a world that needs to stop shouting, start listening, seeing and feeling.”
Unsurprisingly, one of Michelle’s passion is gardening, something that urbanites have become oblivious to. She admits that if her mind wanders, she would most likely be dreaming of ‘green things’, which inspired her latest collection – Midnight Garden. Her designs and signature print were derived from the organic shapes of vegetables such as radish, lady’s finger, and onion, and using natural breezy cottons for an appealing and tranquil feel to the collection.
Alluding to the wistfulness of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Midnight Garden collection features a beguiling palette of blue hues, ranging from navy to cerulean, complemented by monochromatic neutrals in quality fabrics. “My design aesthetic for this collection can be largely characterized by clean monochromatic tones with pops of colour,” says Michelle.
This range of garments are cut in relaxed and laidback silhouettes that offer comfort and ease – fit for a quaint picnic in the gardens. While slightly eclectic, the collection manages to artfully remain work appropriate, with its well-tailored pieces that emanate an understated chic.
On a personal front, you can expect Michelle to be as laid-back as her design style. The animal-lover not only enjoys hanging out with her friends and indulging in grills, barbeques and cold beer, she also contributes to the community by helping out in the soup kitchen.

On December 20, 2013 / By NookmagWe don’t usually do reviews but we feel like we have an angle to share – the experience of a small-palmed reviewer. This super-sized smartphone is an upgrade from HTC One, which by the way has been dubbed the best mobile phone in the world by Tech Radar, so that should give you a scope of what the One Max is like.
Since every user experience is different, let us share with you ours through four main aspects. We won’t harp on the tech specs here, because it is One Max’s ability to fit well into our lifestyle (for one week anyway) was what drove us to write this review. So these are some of the things that we liked and disliked about HTC’s latest phone.
The Big Screen
5.9 inches to be exact. This made the phone quite a handful for our small-palmed managing editor Gracie, but the curved back makes the grip comfortable. As we are big phone-droppers, the Gorilla Glass screen and its scratch-resistant durability is good news to us. We didn’t get to try this out though, because we were super careful not to drop it.
Its high definition display, coupled with real-time hardware colour enhancer and optical lamination makes going under the sun a tad bit easier. We no longer have to provide a shade to see what’s displayed on the screen, allowing us to be on-the-go without much hassle.
The Fingerprint Scan
This was a useful addition to keep pesky, kaypo hands away. This additional layer of security uses fingerprint scanning to unlock the phone and open apps. You can add up to three fingerprints – the people you trust most we assume. Though it is a good function with good thought, it presents a problem for tiny hands.
The phone is so big that Gracie keeps missing the scanner. Flipping the phone back and forth means wasting time, or in Gracie’s terms – not unlocking it fast enough to take a picture. Despite this, Gracie believes the extra layer of security will come in handy if you have confidential information in your phone.
The HTC Zoe
During sporting events or crazy dance parties where everyone is moving too fast for you to capture a still picture, HTC Zoe will be your bestfriend. It captures 3 second videos from which you can choose the frame that most tickle your fancy.
Gracie finds this especially useful when she goes to media events – you get every second of an exciting moment. The process is simple and effective, removing the need to choose between taking a video or a photo. The image resolution is also clear enough to replace your digicam, if you’re not a serious photographer that is.
The video editor allows you to choose photo and videos, add your preferred soundtrack, and select the timeframe you want. Having a simplified video editor is fun, especially if you are too lazy to go on your laptop. The GIF Creator is possibly our most favourite addition, increasing our desire to contribute to the world of 4Chan. You pick part of the clip you want, speed it up, or slow it down. Again, this was super easy to do.
The HTC Blinkfeed
Gracie’s favourite feature of HTC One Max is the Blinkfeed, an enhanced home screen display which uses likes and dislikes from social networks to recommend a personal feed based on your preference. You choose the topic and Blinkfeed will search the World Wide Web and keep you updated. Sort of like your own personal assistant.
Gracie chose topics like surfing, skateboarding, and photography. While photography content is widely available, Gracie feels niche topics like surfing and skateboarding might be difficult to locate. Yet, she was not disappointed with the updates she received and feels this ‘makes your phone even more personal’. With Blinkfeed, it feels like HTC One Max is truly tailored to suit your interest.
We hope this review has been useful! The HTC One Max in Glacial Silver is available at M1, SingTel, and StarHub, as well as selected authorised resellers. The Stealth Black will be available at a later date.

On November 27, 2013 / By NookmagAs you already know, world-renowned graffiti artist Stash has been working with Reebok to come up with some fresh kicks. Not only has he contributed to the designs, he has also selected several graffiti and street artists from the world over for the new line. We have already introduced to you Tokyo by Rimo and Paris by Dem189. Joining the rest this week are four other amazingly-designed sneakers.
London
Designed by Typo-Grafix legend and graphic designer Swifty, the London sneaker reflects ‘Bombing London’ – both in an artistic and graffiti sense, and also terrorism. In an interview with Art and Sole Blog, Swifty mentioned he liked the juxtaposition between a hotbed of creative talent as well as a target for people who wants to destroy London. The piece is a combination of spray paint, collage, and stencil. The father of three has previously collaborated with apparel brands Levi’s and Fred Perry, and his work with Reebok is his first step into the sneaker industry.
Los Angeles
EKLIPS, an LA-based graffiti innovator, had the honour of representing his city with this watercolour-themed sneaker. The artist and owner of Seventh Letter Inc and the Known Gallery has brought you his take on LA on this west coast classic with suede graffiti-print overlays. EKLIPS has been named one the best graffiti writers to create a movement and has had a large influence on the graffiti scene.
Mexico
For Mexico, Stash decided to pick a member of Da Flow Team, a known Mexican art collective who have previously collaborated with other graf gods like Futura and Stash himself. The artist, Xghetto666, who sometimes dons a mask, is a world recognised illustrator and graphic artist. His version of a Reebok City Classic has a simpler colour scheme compared to the rest. However, on a closer look, sneaker fans will be able to see the lined details that make up most of the design. Xghetto666 finishes his design off with a wrestler-like character on the heel of the sneakers.
NYC – Wane
Wane COD is a graffiti legend who has been painting steadily for over 25 years. He first started in Le Bronx and has since became a household name to street art enthusiasts. Known for his natural ability to story tell, Wane is also into the hip-hop scene. For his collaboration with Reebok, Wane decided on a purple and blue colourway with red highlights that stand out. This is of course, together with a bold tag across the limited-edition sneakers.
These sneakers are available for SGD119 each, at Royal Sporting House Vivo, Ngee Ann City, BHG, and Limited Edt.

On November 22, 2013 / By Nookmag
Without a doubt, the recent Autumn/Winter fashion week 2013 left everyone in awe as the newest trends to hit the boutiques start to roll out. Despite the lovely sunny climate, fashionistas from tropical and subtropical regions such as Singapore and Hong Kong could not help but adore clothes designed for countries with oceanic climates.
So how can trendsetters in tropical locations pull off the same kind of clothing styles without looking heavy and overdressed? We listed a few ideas below:
Animal Print
Animal prints are just some of the recurring trends every now and then. If wearing leopard printed blouses and pants seems awkward to you, you can top your plain outfit with a Marks & Spencer Limited Edition Lightweight Animal Print Scarf to add some animalistic sizzle to your outfit.
Autumn Florals and Bright Coloured Clothes
Grey, black, white, and dark orange clothes with floral designs are in this season. Also, bright-colored shoes and neon red skirts have graced the runways of AW13 fashion shows. “Not everything is black or white. Fall’s runways were rife with the in-between – from charcoal to slate – consider it the new neutral,” said Harper’s Bazaar.
Asian Prints
The oriental prints on dark-colored dresses created a new trend on the runways. “Asian Prints as well as Oriental forms in clothing have been an inspiring trend for this season. Kimono jackets and comfortable pajama pants with motifs that resemble Chinese paintings, wrap skirts or jewellery with an oriental aura complete the summer outfit with asian influences!” said online trend resource Fashion Forward.
Mix and Match
This classic combo has always been a favorite among fashion experts. No matter how simple your clothes are, a simple mix-and-match can turn your plain clothes into an extravagant getup. A simple white V-neck top and black cardigans can be matched with “furry toppers, and slick leather pants, (which would give) us a taste of what is quite clearly one of season’s biggest trends,” Fabsugar added.
No matter where you are or what the trends are, what’s important is that you dress according to the climate to ensure ultimate comfort. Also, don’t forget to flaunt your clothes with confidence. Without it, your clothes are as good as an empty shell – so go out and turn the whole world into a runway.

On November 20, 2013 / By NookmagThis week, we’re showcasing Reebok’s graffiti-themed kicks. Named after the graffiti artists who worked on them and the home cities they were born in, these sneakers are something special.
STASH
Now considered as one of New York’s graffiti legends, the East Village’s 80s graffiti scene was revolutionised by Stash’s arrival. When he was 17, Stash exhibited his first canvases alongside pop art pioneers Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
His signature use of subway map collages and bold outlines made him the ideal artist to collaborate with for streetwear apparel. Brands that worked with him include Nike, Burton, Medicom toy, and A Bathing Ape. His photographic work, city motifs, and printing techniques have made him a regarded innovator in the world of urban design.
TOKYO
Tokyo is designed by Rimo, one half of the graphic design team called “mocrock”. Born in Tokyo in 1977, Rimo is active internationally in the sphere of music, animation, advertising, and fashion. The shoes resemble Rimo’s view of the city – a patchwork of modern, ancient, sleazy, shiny, noisy, beauiful, dirty, and serene.
“I designed this artwork to make it look like a cover of a Tokyo guidebook for tourists… although with a twist of colour that give you a psychedelic effect since the city does give you that effect in my opinion,” said Rimo on his artwork.
PARIS
Dem189 aka Monster was born in the late 70s, in Beyrouth, Lebanon. This meant Dem had to develop his own creative universe within the confines of a city at war. In 1989, Dem moved to Paris and discovered new urban biotopes, different rules, and cultures – this was where he discovered graffiti.
He creates his own style by integrating different movements in music, including punk-rock, electro, and hip-hop. His design for Reebok reflects his view of the city – chaotic, hard, but also beautiful. According to Dem, there is also “some kind of softness to it to, a human dimension”.
These kicks are priced at $119 (Stash), $129 (Paris), and $119 (Tokyo). All three are available at Royal Sporting House Vivo, Ngee Ann City, BHG, and Limited Ed stores.

Garbstore’s rendition of the Reebok Classic is one head-turner that is inspired by a simple yet out-of-the-box idea sparked by its designer, Ian Paley’s curiosity of what’s going on inside the shoes. A creative exposé of the unseen elements of the original classics, the Garbstore x Reebok “Outside In” collection sees various silhouettes being flipped to reveal linings, foams and textiles on the outside. A true display of inner beauty indeed.
Laced with a touch of Garbstore’s usual ‘unfamiliar vintage’ style, the “Outside In” collection aims to provide consumers with an impression that the shoes were created during the same era as their originals, with parts that originate from the same factory shelves as back then.
The Garbstore x Reebok Classic Leather 6000 (SGD159) and the Garbstore x Reebok Insta-Pump Fury (SGD239) are available at Limited Edt stores.

For a while, Reebok was keeping quite a low profile in the street scene. Things took a turn as it celebrates the 30th anniversary of its signature Classic series this year. Churning out brilliant collaboration shoes with independent street labels all over the world, Reebok has been creating an uproar in the scene. These street labels bear honourable street credibility and are part of the Reebok Certified Network.
In the next few weeks, Nookmag will be running a series of features highlighting various noteworthy Reebok Classic collections to join in the revelry. And in this debut edition, we will be directing the attention to three special collaborations that marked the Reebok Classic’s 30th anniversary.
Limited Edt x Reebok Classic Leather 30th Anniversary (SGD149)
Starting with a homegrown collaboration, the Limited Edt x Reebok Classic Leather 30th Anniversary shoe is decked in a reptilian style as it pays tribute to 2013 being the year of the snake. Limited Edt pushed the design envelope to stratospheric heights by incorporating green iridescent faux snakeskin on the shoe’s exterior. The shoe’s inner layer is made up of different multicolored snakeskin, taking reference from how snakes molt or shed skin. This embodies the snake’s alluring beauty after the reptile renews its skin.
atmos x Reebok Classic Leather Mid 30th Anniversary (SGD199)
atmos, Tokyo’s iconic streetwear retailer, sums up the spirit of Tokyo in its collaboration shoe. With the Classic Leather Mid as its chosen silhouette, the shoe also exhibits a prominent earthy camouflage design and a glow-in-the-dark characteristic that echos the identity of atmos.
Beatnic x Reebok Classic Leather 30th Anniversary (SGD149)
The Beatnic x Reebok Classic Leather 30th Anniversary shoe is inspired by British camouflage. Hailing from California, Beatnic dressed the shoe up in suede, complete with an orange lining that represents its hometown of Fullerton and pays homage to its original logo.
“BTNC’s Classic Leather plays on the timeless look of the design, updating its typically understated look with a bold aesthetic inspired by that of British camouflage,” says BTNC designer/manager Glen Repol.
The Limited Edt x Reebok Classic Leather 30th Anniversary, atmos x Reebok Classic Leather Mid 30th Anniversary and Beatnic x Reebok Classic Leather 30th Anniversary shoes are available at Limited Edt boutiques.

Walking down the pavement along the old and iconic Shaw Tower, you’ll notice a white pigeon vinyl figure being displayed at the storefront. Upon entering the shop, you are soon greeted by a unique retail environment and coming to a realisation that it’s more than just a physical store.
The pop-up shop borrows the space to resident in-house Hairloom Salon, embedded in a concept where crafts and designs come alive. Bringing in elements from the characteristics of the original NYC store, the symbolic Reed Space chairs are displayed on the wall.
Staple Design owns and operate Reed Space in the Lower East Side of New York City. Reed Space is often regarded as one of the world’s best and most innovative boutiques, featuring an art gallery which has hosted some of our generation’s most celebrated artists.
Catering to its ever-growing demand and those who’d stood along appreciating the brand, people will now have the access to experience the full collection. The pop-up store emphasises more on its newest collection for Staple Fall 2013. Divided into several motifs, the collection is a combination of preppy look with a military influence.
Along with the Fall Collection for 2013, the “Staple Poison Ivy” speaks to the Ivy league aesthetic with subtle collegiate emblems, plaid and colour-blocked button-downs, and varsity-inspired sportswear, while the “Dead Pigeons Society” is a nod to the fathers of transcendentalism with an enlightened take on man’s encounter with nature.
Among others, the collection features mixed-material jackets with special lining details, composition notebook-themed prints, patterned woven and embroidered chino pants, jacquard chambray button-down shirts and loopback hoodies, printed five-panel hats, and their custom Pigeon camouflage.
Limited edition items like Staple x BEATS headphones and the latest STAPLE x Herschel Supply knowmatic kit travel set will also be available in-store soon.
“The insatiable demand for Staple products has grown over the years, especially for products that cannot be found in this region. The Staple pop-up gives customers a chance to experience the full collection for themselves. As most stores purchase only a part of the collection, we figured that there is indeed a demand that is not being fulfilled. After working with stores for two years now – both local and those in the region, we realised that our clientele have evolved. There is no single category that we can identify our customers with. The retail environment, which comes with the pop up store, reflects the different dimensions that the Staple brand embody: design and art, lifestyle, craft, and street,” said Sabrina Li, Singapore/South East Asia Sales for Staple Design.
“The staple pop-up is a prelude to what is to come. We will showcase the brand in a new perspective. As a representative for Staple in SEA/Taiwan, we also hope to present Staple’s core message of being a positive social contagion. This will be reflected in our unique store experience through our products and services. We will be revealing a permanent and new concept space where they will be featuring crafts and design and housing full Staple collections as well as other global labels.”
“This is only made possible by Jeffstaple and the team in NYC HQ. They have been supportive and truly inspiring in our efforts to bringing Staple to this part of the world,” said Sabrina.
Staple Pop-up Store is happening from 30th September to 16th November 2013, located at Shaw Tower Singapore S189702.

In the first edition of our Store Guide series, we bring you along the heart of Bali Lane – away from the usual busy traffic that’s parallel to Haji Lane. Tuckshop & Sundry Supplies, formally located at Kandahar Street, has recently shifted to a more cozy area. The two-story high concept store has found its new ground just beside the Hounds of Baskerville.
Leather craft lovers and denim enthusiasts will feel appreciated as a variety of those are available at the store. Housing quality and difficult to acquire products is the aim of Tuckshop & Sundry Supplies.
In-house brand Obbigood Label features off-the-rack designs as well as bespoke products. Other labels include TCB Jeans, Rising Sun Jeans, Red Cloud Denim, Triple Work, Iron Heart and Mister Hearts.
“Tuckshop & Sundry Supplies is a specialized men’s store. A store that only offers high quality products that will last for a long time. We are not a regular retail store, we do not follow trends,” James Dung, Global Business Director for Obbi Good label says.
“Clothing, footwear and accessories evolve with our lifestyle enabling us to wear them regularly and often. This is what we want to bring the locals – value for money products,” he says.
“We believe in buying less, but buying good. Understand the products that you are buying instead of spending blindly on brands. In Tuckshop & Sundry Supplies, we’ll explain to you how our goods are made and why they can last. You’ll know every dollar you’ve spent on the product is worth it,” says James.
Tuckshop & Sundry Supplies is located at 25 Bali Lane, Singapore 189861.
