BHG Singapore continues to reinvent the retail genre with the launch of their three in-house brands – Societe, Otona Mode, and SBT. Designed by BHG Singapore’s first in-houseOn September 2, 2020 / By Nookmag
BHG Singapore continues to reinvent the retail genre with the launch of their three in-house brands – Societe, Otona Mode, and SBT. Designed by BHG Singapore’s first in-house fashion designer, Esther Choy, this marks the first time in the department store’s 26 years history that they will be offering original designs designed for young Singaporeans by a young Singaporean.
The move to hire an in-house designer is part of BHG Singapore’s aim to do more in supporting local talents. “We hope that we are able to lend greater appreciation for the potential that local designers offer and help to charter new career options for these youths within the shores of home,” said Ms Vivien Lim, Head of Merchandising at BHG Singapore.
With her ears to the ground and commitment to serve fellow Singaporean women, Esther has taken care to consider what women want and need from their outfits, from comfort, to versatility, and especially pockets.
Drawing on her previous experiences, she recognises the importance of pockets: “I’ve heard plenty of feedback from women that pockets in womens-wear are often designed without much consideration for utility and functionality, unlike the pockets in menswear that are well-constructed. This informs a large part of my designs for women. Although heavily inspired by menswear elements, my style is all about making these elements more usable in womens-wear, without compromising on aesthetics.”
The three collections cater to women from all walks of life – Societe for the modern working woman, Otona Mode for the ladies who value comfort, and SBT for the younger and more adventurous. Also keep a look out for the soft launch of BHG Singapore’s menswear label, Cool Blue. Featuring sleek lines and classic silhouettes, familiar fits are reinterpreted for the everyday.
In another first, BHG Singapore has partnered with a team of graduating Laselle College of the Arts students to conceptualise and create lookbooks for these collections. A show of support to the students who are graduating in difficult times, this opportunity offers the students an alternative avenue to showcase their talents.
BHG Singapore x Ava Gram
From 11 September, Singapore’s very own virtual fashion influencer, Ava Gram, will be embarking on a three-week takeover of BHG Singapore’s Instagram. Ava will be incorporating looks from the three in-house labels into her wardrobe and sharing how she styles them to suit her daily life.
This novel collaboration marks the first time a department store will be working with a virtual influencer, highlighting BHG Singapore’s hopes of connecting with a younger audience.
Available in-store and on BHG online, get designer quality apparel at affordable prices. Additionally, enjoy the flexibility to buy now pay later at no minimum spend with Hoolah, and get the items you want via three interest-free installments.

Sneakerheads rejoice! If you’ve ever missed out on the chance to get your hands on the most sought-after sneakers, you are now in luck. To encourage Singaporeans to move forward in the new normal, Manulife Singapore has launched an online Sneaker Drop which will run for five weeks from now till 4 October, Sunday.
Featuring some of the biggest names in global sneaker culture, the digital draw includes iconic and sought-after sneakers from Nike, Off-White, Supreme and other exclusive collaborations. (Psst… there are a total of seven pairs of highly coveted limited-edition sneakers to be won!)
Going out used to be an escape from the daily grind but for many, staying in is now the new
normal. A recent Manulife Singapore survey in end June revealed that:
Outside of worries around contracting COVID-19 (67%) and the fear of long queues and large
crowds (58%), convenience related factors, such as not wanting to wear a mask for a long time
(47%), and the hassle of having to sign in and out everywhere (45%) are also barriers to resuming
In line with the government’s phased approach for all to resume activities safely, the Manulife Singapore Online Sneaker Drop aims to give Singaporeans the motivation to step outside safely and confidently. All you have to do is answer a series of simple weekly questions for a chance to win the weekly limited-edition sneakers. To get the right answers, participants may choose to head out and about the various neighbourhoods in a safe and responsible manner with masks on while maintaining social distancing.
“It is our hope that the winners will wear their new kicks proudly as they take a ‘Singapoliday’ – to explore our island and support local businesses. This is part of our brand promise of giving people the confidence to make the right decisions that can improve their outlook on life at every moment of every day,” said Darren Thompson, Chief Customer Officer, Manulife Singapore.
HOW TO QUALIFY
To participate for the digital draw, simply sign up via the web page. Each week’s draw ends on Saturday at 7pm, with winner(s) selected at random via an online webinar on Sundays at 8.30pm. The campaign kicks off with the highly coveted Nike x Supreme Air Force 1 Low White up for grabs. Winners will be announced at the first webinar lucky draw on 6 September hosted by Chua En Lai together with guests Mediacorp CLASS 95 DJs Justin Ang and Vernon A, better known as The Muttons, who will be sharing more about their personal sneaker collections.

ByCanary is a new digital-first fine jewellery label set to launch on 8 September 2020 with eight core collections and a designer collaboration. Inspired by the aspirational personalities of today, the brand seeks to offer their clients modular, affordable options to start building a collection of high quality stylish and expressive jewellery that grows with them.
Launched and helmed by the veteran team at The Canary Diamond Co, ByCanary is a conscious, socially and environmentally responsible label that offers decades of industry know-hows, craftsmanship, and access to ethically-sourced gems and recycled fine metals. Taking a stand in giving back to the community, 10% of profits from all designer collaboration collections will be donated to a charity organisation of the designer’s choice.
With the aim of not only addressing the gap in the region’s jewellery market for trendy designs, the founders of ByCanary also set out to pioneer high quality and environmentally conscious pieces by tapping on technological advancements to cater to an increasingly astute generation of shoppers. As such, their jewellery are designed not just to offer you an avenue for creativity and self-expression, but are also a symbol for the causes you fight for.
“Through the years at the Canary Diamond Co, we’ve received requests from customers to offer trendy ready-to-wear pieces that are 18K gold hypoallergenic and environmentally conscious. We’ve taken the feedback to heart and are proud to be able to make your dreams a reality. With ByCanary, we are also challenging traditional jewellery designs by collaborating with creatives out of the industry which has expanded our creative vision and artistic horizons as we bring you novel and fresh pieces in every collection.”
— Johnny Lam, Director, The Canary Diamond Co
Yiulin X ByCanary
Excited to be pushing the envelope of fine jewellery designs and reinventing the wheel through cross-industry collaborations, ByCanary is proud join hands with Malaysian footwear designer, stylish entrepreneur, and mother-of-three, Ung Yiu Lin for their first collaboration.
“Every woman loves jewellery and diamonds. But the modern women of today no longer need to be gifted. We want to be buying our own diamonds — we work hard and sometimes we just want to buy ourselves something as a reward or to mark a special occasion. What you’ll find in this collection are beautiful stackable and buildable pieces that will take you from day to night, from classy to edgy, which to me is the fun thing we are incorporating into fine jewellery. And you don’t have to fork out an exorbitant amount of money for it.”
— Ung Yiu Lin
A key feature of the Yiulin X ByCanary collection is its modular design ethos that offers consumers the freedom to personalise their jewellery by harmonising different detachable components together. Inspired by Yiulin’s own style and lifestyle as a mother and a business woman, this collection is an ode to the modern woman who buys her own diamonds and wears them as an expression of who she chooses to be in any occasion.
From the White Gold Pear Head (SGD6,500) with a detachable centrepiece – which you may secure to the band of your choice – to the asscher-shaped diamond studs (SGD5,900) in 18K black gold, this collection is flexible enough to suit your mood depending on which band or add-ons you feel like sporting for the day.
On average, the Yiulin X ByCanary collection retails from SGD4,000 for earrings to SGD29,800 for necklaces. True to their belief that a successful company has a responsibility to the greater community, 10% of profits from this collection will go to the Dignity for Children Foundation in supporting their education.
There’s more to the modern shopper than what meets the eye — each shape though simple, presents many facades, an apt representation of our multi-faceted charms. Modern Minimalism features the Hexagon Ring ($1,000) which makes for a chic metaphor for the many hats you wear. Crafted with nine round diamonds set in 18K white gold, this simple yet uniquely configured piece will be sure to add an element of originality to your look. Pair the ring with the Onyx Diamond Earrings ($3,300) from the Mono collection for an added geometric allure. Illuminated by 10 shimmering round diamonds, this piece is shaped into arrows as a symbol of encouragement to follow one’s heart.
Likewise, turn simplicity into opulence with some tinted stones from the Prism collection. The Purple Amethyst Diamond Earrings that retails for SGD3,200 features two beautiful amethysts totalling 8.40 carats and 44 round diamonds, designed to elevate every outfit with sophistication. Also from the collection is the Green Amethyst Diamond Ring (SGD4,600) made from 18K white gold with a 12.65ct centre stone and features 68 round diamonds for an enlivening twist to your ensemble.

The work routines of countless people have changed, as we know it. Instead of commuting as usual to the office, many individuals are extensively teleworking or working in shifts to minimize proximity with others. Having easy access to laptops and digital devices make all sorts of tasks practical remotely, from meetings to job hunting.
Teleworking, working in shifts, or exploring other alternatives to regular commuting to the office has broadened the scope of apparel that many need to consider to stay comfortable and productive at home.
With LifeWear designed to improve everyday life for everyone, you can choose from countless smart pieces that look professional and are easy to care for, so you can zoom quickly into those work calls and job interviews.
Adopt a good teleworking routine
Just as you might have your breakfast at the same time every morning before work, dressing up for work can imbue a comfortable sense of normalcy in this uncertain period. And hey, when you look good, you feel good!
This comfortable easy care shirt has quick-drying DRY technology, which absorbs sweat and wicks moisture away from your body, making it super comfortable to wear at home all day. The wrinkle-resistant material requires minimal ironing after washing, which makes getting ready in the morning super convenient. Just grab the shirt, throw it on, and you are ready to power up your laptop and start your workday at home!
Create a good first impression in video job interviews
New social distancing norms inevitably necessitate video interviews and other online activities if you are looking for a new job. First impressions are crucial for interviews with hiring managers, so making sure your clothes look sharp and are well-ironed is very important, even on camera!
The wrinkle-resistant Women’s Rayon Sleeveless Blouse and Rayon Stand Collar Short Sleeve Blouse come with a soft and smooth texture, making them comfortable and easy to care for, even after you start your new job! Pair them with a sleek blazer to look professional for your interviews.
Take a break
When working from home, we tend to sit at our desks for long periods of time and sometimes even forget to grab lunch. One thing that health and wellness experts can agree on, is that going on short breaks to stretch can boost cognitive functions and increase productivity. To do so, it naturally helps to wear comfortable, stretchable clothing.
The Women’s Ultra Stretch Legging Pants expands in all directions, giving it an incredibly comfortable fit, so your legs don’t feel stiff even after sitting down for a long period of time. The same goes for the Men’s Stretch Skinny Fit Chino Pants – despite its skinny fit silhouette, its fabric and waist are highly stretchable, making this pair of pants very comfortable and easy to move around in.
From now to 27 August, Uniqlo would like to thank customers for working at home flexibly with them. So, they will be having special offers on their comfortable workwear, making life in the new normal just a little easier. These offers and more can be found across all stores and online at UNIQLO.COM.

This season, Vans honors The Simpsons by launching a collection of footwear, apparel and accesories that celebrate iconic moments of the series fit for any fan of the series.
The standouts of this collection include a Sk8-Hi which features the iconic family portrait – a typical rendition of the househould on one side, and a caveman variation on the other. There are also individual characters featured across the collection.
A notable one includes a lavender Sk8-Hi featuring election-esque graphics which certainly pays homage to Lisa Simpson – for her passion to run for president, and is definitely a pair to own for every aspiring Lisa Simpson.
Not forgetting Vans signature checkerboard pattern, this three-piece collection revolves around the 8-year-old Lisa in a white and bright yellow colorway which presents her saxophone.
The rest of the collection continues to feature iconic characters from the series, but the highlight of the collection is definitely the footwear with bright renditions of the cartoon exhibition across each pair including sandals covered in strawberry frosting and sprinkles (Homer’s favorite).
The Vans x The Simpsons Collections is available online.

Ever wonder what the outer space smells like? Will it be the freshest breath of air you will ever breathe in? Only the astronauts can tell us… until now! Steve Pearce, chemist and founder of Omega Ingredients, has formulated the scent of space for NASA – and a Kickstarter campaign was recently started to release it to the public.
After gathering insider scoop on the smell via astronauts, they described it as “a mix of gunpowder, seared steak, raspberry and rum.” The special concoction was made for training before blasting off beyond the ozone layer, familiarising any foreign elements.
If you are looking for a new signature scent, why not choose one that smells out of this world? Pledge to the project to bring the infinity and beyond inside a bottle!

Millie Bobby Brown, the Stranger Things actress can now add jewellery co-designer to an already impressive list of titles, which includes being the face of and ambassador for Pandora Me, with the release of the e latest range of jewellery.
Collaborating with Pandora’s designers and creative directors to co-design four dangle charms and an earring sold as a single stud as part of the range of new Pandora Me jewellery, Brown chose a starfish, pineapple, flamingo, ocean wave and sea turtle as symbols to bring to life in her co-creations in this collection that is only available for the next six months.
Brown said she loved the process of co-creating the bold and colourful charms for the Pandora Me 2020 range. “All of the symbols I chose are my absolute favourite parts of summer and each charm holds a fun memory or meaning to me.”
Each Pandora Me charm, hand-finished in sterling silver with colourful cubic zirconia, can be added to Pandora Me’s bracelets, safety pin brooch and a new Pandora Me necklace. Earrings in this collection are sold as single studs, allowing for dynamic styling and self-expression.
The new pieces launched for Pandora Me also include three more dangle charms and a spacer charm. Each charm features vibrant colours and bear symbols which can hold different meanings to each wearer, allowing for individuality and self-expression.
With this new launch comes a new way to wear your micro dangle charms in the Pandora Me Link Necklace (SGD279). The chunky chain link carrier allows you to pull off an edgy look when worn on its own, along with openable links where you can put on your favourite charms.
The Pandora Me 2020 is available at all Pandora stores and online from now until December.
