Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. introduces the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, smartphones that rethink the way people communicate, share and experience the world.
Made for an age where consumers increasingly communicate and express themselves with images, videos and emojis, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ drive innovation with Samsung’s advanced camera.
Both models are equipped with a new Dual Aperture lens that powers an innovative low light camera, Super Slow-mo video capabilities and personalised AR Emoji, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ also ensure that users do not miss a moment, where their every day can be made epic.
The Galaxy S9 and S9+ deliver an enhanced entertainment experience with powerful stereo speakers tuned by AKG, immersive audio with Dolby Atmos® and a refined edge-to-edge Infinity Display1 – a key staple in Samsung’s design heritage. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ will also come with the new SmartThings app, which unites Samsung’s existing IoT services all into one single, smart experience.
Today’s cameras are for more than taking pictures for connecting and communicating. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ cameras are built with a SuperSpeed Dual Pixel sensor with dedicated processing power and memory to take amazing shots with high photo quality. The Galaxy S9 and S9+’s camera features include:
Capabilities in taking slow-motion video that captures 960 frames per second. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ also offer automatic Motion Detection, an intelligent feature that detects movement in the frame and automatically begins to record – all users have to do is set up the shot. After capturing the Super Slow-mo video, users can select background music from 35 different options or add a tune from their favourite playlist. Users can also quickly create, edit and share GIF files with a simple tap in three playful styles of looping to watch the action over and over again.
Low Light Camera
Samsung’s Dual Aperture2 (F1.5 / F2.4) automatically lets in more light enter the sensor when it’s dark and less light when it’s too bright, taking optimising the exposure based on the lighting condition.
Samsung lets users create an emoji that looks, sounds and acts like them. AR Emoji uses a data-based machine learning algorithm; it analyses a 2D image of the user and maps out more than 100 facial features to create a 3D model that reflects and imitates expressions, like winks and nods, for true personalisation. AR Emoji shares users’ real-life emotions not only in video but also with a range of stickers and uses a standard AGIF file format so that users can share their emojis across most third-party messaging platforms like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram etc.
Samsung’s intelligence platform, integrated into the camera, uses augmented reality and deep learning technologies to provide helpful information about a user’s surroundings3. With real-time object detection and recognition, Bixby instantly generates data directly on top of the image that the camera is pointing. Users can translate foreign languages and currency in real time with Live Translation, learn about their surroundings, purchase products seen in the real world and track calories throughout the day4.
Smartphones are often our go-to choice for entertainment, which is why Samsung created a device that offers premium sound experiences with stereo speakers tuned by AKG. Sounds are crystal clear, crisp and rich in quality, whether users are watching their favourite movie or streaming their favourite artist’s latest album. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ also support Dolby Atmos, giving the effect of 360-degree sound.
The Galaxy S9 and S9+ audio experience complemented by Samsung’s revolutionary Infinity Display. First introduced on the Galaxy S8, the bold, bright Super AMOLED Infinity Display blends right into the phone with virtually no distracting notches. With adaptive contrast enhancement, users can use their device even in direct sunlight.
The Best Comes Standard with the Galaxy Foundation
Samsung sets the gold standard for smartphones with IP687 water and dust resistance and wireless charging and goes a step beyond with the Galaxy S9 and S9+. The devices now support the expandable memory of up to 400GB with a Micro SD Card and are equipped with the latest premium application processors offering dominant performance and sophisticated image processing.
Samsung’s latest defence-grade security platform supports three different biometric authentication options – iris, fingerprint, and facial recognition – so users can choose the way they want to protect their device and applications.
The devices feature Intelligent Scan, a new verification that intelligently uses the collective strength of iris scanning and facial recognition technology to quickly and conveniently unlock a user’s phone in various situations. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ also introduce Dedicated Fingerprint, giving users the option to use a different fingerprint to access Secure Folder than the one used to unlock the phone.

I am saving the best for the last; the diagnostics section is the most critical section that every Samsung user should take note.
Samsung had done a great job to recreate hardware test mode into a clean and straightforward graphical interface.

Alongside with cleaning unwanted memory and storage, uninstall unused apps to free up internal storage space and improve your phone’s performance.

Want to find out if OPPO’s cameras are as good as it claims to be? Head over to The Playground, an interactive pop-up store located outside the main entrance of Wisma Atria on Orchard Road, where OPPO’s latest camera phones will be put to the test through curated photography studios.
You can test out these features at The Playground’s night-time photography studio to experience how the dual rear cameras perform, capture the ultimate ‘Gram in the beauty box to see how OPPO’s AI Beauty Recognition technology stacks up, and discover for themselves just how impressive images are when captured by the R11s and R11s Plus in the portrait studio.
New technology for the ultimate smartphone photography experience
The dual rear cameras on the R11s and R11s Plus have been re-engineered to capture the highest quality of portraits for both day and night conditions.
The 16MP and 20MP rear cameras function as primary cameras for different light conditions. The 16MP rear camera takes on the primary role of normal everyday shots in brightly lit environments, while the 20MP high definition camera becomes the main camera for low-light environments.
OPPO’s AI Beauty Recognition technology on the front camera scans for 254 facial recognition points in 3D for each subject, references them against a database of facial images, and analyses features based on gender, age, skin texture, skin colour, expression and environment scenarios before making enhancements that are customised for each subject. As a result, selfies are all the more visually stunning, without compromising the natural look of each selfie subject.
Together with the dual cameras and enhanced AI technology, the R11s and R11s Plus offers a higher sensitivity to light and large aperture to allow more light into the device, resulting in even clearer and brighter images than ever before.
Simple yet bold design
For an immersive camera phone experience, the OPPO R11s features a 6.01-inch full-screen display to bring images to life, and is available in black, champagne and red. The red model is a special variant, developed with a unique starry sky screen. On the other hand, the R11s Plus comes equipped with a 6.43-inch full-screen display, battery, and more RAM than the R11s, and is available in champagne and black.
The crescent arc design of both phones, which are the concave indentations at the bottom edges, holds the headphone jack, speaker and mini USB port. Sound projection is no longer muted by the user’s hands. At the same time, OPPO has enhanced the firm grip and aesthetics of the slim and sleeker body, which rests snugly in the palm.
Under the hood, the R11s and R11s Plus are powered by the Qualcomm SnapdragonTM 660 chipset that comes with exceptional battery life with the 3205mAh battery and the proprietary VOOC Flash charge technology.
Enhanced user experience with ColorOS 3.2
The R11s and R11s Plus run on ColorOS 3.2, which has an overall smoother performance, is faster and safer, and even enables users to multitask using the split screen mode. Facial unlock uses AI to recognise the user and can unlock the phones in just 0.08 seconds. Other unlocking functions such as a password and fingerprint scanner on the back of the phones have also been made available on the R11s and R11s Plus.
The OPPO R11s camera phone is available for purchase in Singapore from 2 December for SGD699. Pre-order starts from now at https://www.oppostore.com.sg/products/oppo-r11s. The OPPO R11s Plus will go on sale on 9 December and will be priced at SGD849.
The Playground pop-up store will be held outside of Wisma Atria’s main entrance on Orchard Road from now to 25 December from 12pm-10pm daily.

Apple announced the release of its most expensive phone to date, iPhone X. There are several things about its features which caught the attention of many ardent Apple fans – durable all-glass body, augmented reality, and its resistance towards water and dust.
However, what caused quite a stir around the world is the price tag of Apple’s new phone. This premium handset starts at a shocking SGD999 in Singapore and has angered many fans with its exorbitant cost.
But Singapore isn’t the most affected by Apple’s worldwide price changes. According to a global price comparison study by CupoNation, consumers in Europe are paying a higher price for Apple phones – and the launch of iPhone X isn’t changing anything. In fact, Hungary is the most expensive country to purchase an iPhone X.
If you are a fan who is bent on getting your hands on this premium glass phone, US and Japan are the cheapest countries, where Apple Stores will charge iPhone X buyers the equivalent of £755 and £771 respectively.
Previously, the UK was a favourite destination for iPhone lovers, however, as the pound rate tumbled, US and Japan became fast new destinations for those planning their iPhone travels this year.
So, now may be a good time to check out flight tickets to Tokyo for a much-welcomed family holiday while bringing back a nice holiday treat of the brand new iPhone X for yourself!
With OPPO’s newest launch of its R11, competitors in the market might be facing their toughest match ever, and here’s why we think so. The OPPO R11 isOn September 12, 2017 / By Tian Tian
The OPPO R11 is created with its users in mind. First of all, the shell of OPPO R11 is designed with a purposeful arched back that allows a comfortable and snug hold, ensuring that your butterfingers will not get a chance to slip this piece of art out of your hold.
In addition to that, the OPPO R11 is built to ensure users get the best out of its charging experience. With just 20 minutes of charging time, the OPPO R11 has the ability to achieve about 50% of its battery life. The flash charge surpasses most of the smartphones in the market, which means you can bid carrying multiple chargers around goodbye.
Quite seemingly, the crux of OPPO R11 is in its camera functions. As of now, it is the most powerful camera phone OPPO has ever introduced. Packed with an astounding 20 megapixels for both its front and back cameras, you will never have to worry about blurry images taken with a zoomed-in function. To sweeten this, the back camera is complemented with an additional 16 megapixels. When used together, images can be taken exceptionally clear with an astonishing 36 megapixels, equivalent to that of professional cameras.
So what if you are an iPhone user who really liked what is mentioned above, but is afraid to take the leap to switch? Well, for iPhone users who are used to the iOS interfaces, the OPPO range of phones is known to have interfaces similar to that of iOS. So, if you ever feel like you might take a long time to get used to using Android phones, perhaps OPPO might just help you ease into that familiarity.
Available in gold, black and red, capture life’s greatest moments with the Oppo R11 now!

The Most Powerful Phone with a Four-inch Display
Reinvented from the inside out, iPhone SE gives customers a powerful, full-featured iPhone no matter which model they choose. The 64-bit A9 chip, introduced in iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, offers iPhone SE customers two times faster CPU and three times faster GPU performance compared to iPhone 5s, all with gains in energy efficiency for improved battery life. M9, Apple’s next-generation motion coprocessor, is integrated into A9 allowing more features to run all the time at lower power, including “Hey Siri” without having to pick up your iPhone, and a range of fitness tracking capabilities like measuring your steps and distance. iPhone SE users can browse, download and stream content even faster with Wi-Fi up to three times and LTE up to 50 percent faster than iPhone 5s.* iPhone SE also includes more LTE bands for better worldwide roaming and supports Voice over LTE and Wi-Fi calling for high-quality wideband calls.
With an easy-to-use interface, amazing features, and security at its core, iOS 9 is the foundation of iPhone SE and brings powerful built-in apps like Messages, FaceTime®, Photos, Music and Maps to iPhone users. iOS 9 also brings more intelligence to iPhone SE with proactive assistance, powerful search, improved Siri® features, and a new Night Shift™ feature that uses your iPhone SE’s clock and geolocation to automatically adjust the colors in the display to the warmer end of the spectrum after dark and may even help you get a better night’s sleep.
All of these innovations are packed into a light and compact phone designed to fit comfortably in your hand, crafted from bead-blasted aluminum for a satin-like finish, refined matte-chamfered edges, a new color-matched stainless steel inset Apple logo and a brilliant four-inch Retina® display.
The World’s Most Popular Camera
iPhone SE has an advanced 12-megapixel iSight camera featuring Focus Pixel technology for fast focusing, an Apple-designed image signal processor, advanced noise reduction, third-generation local tone mapping and better face detection, all resulting in sharper, more detailed photos like the ones shot on iPhone 6s. With Live Photos on iPhone SE, customers can go beyond snapshots to capture moments in motion and relive unforgettable memories with sound. Live Photos are beautiful 12-megapixel photos that, with just a touch, reveal the moments immediately before and after the shot was taken, so users can enjoy a living memory rather than an instant frozen in time.

A leader in smart speaker system, Sonos never stops reinventing. Ushering in the next era of home audio innovations, it has recently introduced breakthroughs in both hardware and software – the new flagship SONOS PLAY:5 smart speaker and a new speaker-tuning software called Truplay.
The SONOS PLAY:5, elegantly designed from the inside out, delivers the purest, deepest and most vibrant sound yet from Sonos. The speaker delivers an audio experience that transports music aficionados to the studio where the sound is mixed and mastered.
Built with six synchronised, custom-designed drivers, the speaker’s three mid-woofers create smooth mids and deep, powerful lows that go as low as 27Hz, and three tweeters deliver crystal clear highs at any volume. The drivers are strategically placed to create a soundstage that is much wider than expected in a single speaker. What this creates is the precise separation of every vocal and instrumental element in a track.
For the first time, SONOS PLAY:5 has three orientations. In addition to horizontal orientation as a standalone speaker, two SONOS PLAY:5 paired together vertically produce top-of-the-line stereo sound with a focused and intense sweet spot. Paired horizontally, they create a larger stereo image for an immersive, room-filling listening experience.
Boasting an extremely sleek aesthetic with a matte finish, the SONOS PLAY:5 is thoughtfully designed for the home environment with the following features:
The new touch controls offer an intuitive, easy way to play, pause, adjust volume and change the track. Smart sensors make these touch controls responsive to all orientations, so the volume-up is always facing up.
Similar to its predecessor, the new SONOS PLAY:5 works seamlessly with all Sonos smart speakers and adds even greater modularity with the ability to act as rear speakers in home theatre setups with SONOS PLAYBAR® and SONOS SUB™.
Trueplay is a new feature in the Sonos app that will calibrate your speaker to your room. It is a tuning software that allows your speaker to analyse the acoustic profile of any room and fine-tunes itself. Using the Sonos app, the microphone on an iPhone or iPad, and a series of test tones emitted by the Sonos speaker, the system analyses how sound reflects off walls, furnishings, glass and other surfaces in any given room. Sonos then smartly tunes that speaker so the music sounds its very best. The result? Music is liberated so that it sounds great in every room, in every home.
“Our remit at Sonos has evolved from constantly working to improve the general sound of all of our speakers to customising them: first by room, and in the future, by person, activity and content,” said record producer, composer, and Sonos sound experience leader Giles Martin. “We are obsessed with improving the home music experience, which must take into account acoustically unfriendly rooms. Tuning a room is the first of many software enhancements that make the experience richer and more personal for listeners whilst giving artists a whole new creative arena.”
Trueplay will be available first on all SONOS PLAY:1®, SONOS PLAY:3®, SONOS PLAY:5® products and iOS controllers, and will be further added to the Sonos lineup over time.

The BackBeat SENSE is super lightweight at only 140g, about the same weight as a smartphone! This makes it perfect to bring around your daily commute or travel.
The BackBeat SENSE headphones also lets you pair and connect to 2 smart devices at the same time, this intelligent pairing is especially handy for those who alternate between devices by lock the primary device and switching to the other, the BackBeat SENSE smart sensors will automatically follow and switch the audio source!
Intuitive Smart Sensor Technology.
Built-in smart sensors automatically pause your music when you slip off the headphones, preserving battery life when they’re not being worn, then gently fading in your tunes when you put them back on. Intelligent pairing makes connecting and moving back and forth between devices fast and seamless, including pairing with two devices simultaneously. Whispered voice alerts provide important updates on battery life, connection status, and more. Centralizing the headphone controls in one earcup makes the headphones easier to use and more intuitive, and battery life gets a serious boost with the ability to stream music and media for up to 18 hours on a single charge.
BackBeat SENSE also takes an innovative approach to design, ensuring all-day wearing comfort for everyone. Its unique, patent-pending headband is designed to comfortably fit 99% of head sizes and evenly distribute the weight of the headphones, extending wear time by eliminating pressure that can cause fatigue and discomfort. At only 140g, about the same weight as a smartphone, BackBeat SENSE is approximately 50% lighter than most on-ear Bluetooth headphones available today (* Internal testing has shown BackBeat SENSE weighs at least 50% less than a comprehensive list of competitive on-ear Bluetooth headphones.) Pillow-soft memory foam ear pads conform to the shape of the listener’s ear, improving audio performance. The headphones’ compact form and fold-flat earcups make BackBeat SENSE comfortable and convenient to wear around the neck when not in use.
Additional BackBeat SENSE technologies and benefits include:
Signature Plantronics audio and dynamic drivers create the optimal balance of rich bass, crisp highs, and natural midtones to let you enjoy your music to the full, and hear every detail in your media.
Advanced Class 1 Bluetooth lets you control up to two connected smartphones or tablets from up to 330ft/100m away—the length of a football field (* Requires a Class 1 Bluetooth device).
Dual mics enable HD Voice communication for clear calls or interactions with voice applications such as Siri™, Google Now, Cortana and Skype.
OpenMic™ technology for those times when you’ll occasionally need to hear the outside world. With OpenMic, you can do so with the touch of a button, and without missing a beat.

On hindsight, the evolution of how digital music is made available to the undiscerning consumers could seem like a backward hike down the Great Wall of China. In a bid to stuff more music into our portable players, we compress MP3s and compromise their sound quality in the process. Fortunately, technology is allowing our devices to support high resolution music. Even digital music streaming services such as Deezer and Spotify provide high definition audio for consumers to enjoy music the way it was by the artists.
With this said, what’s good quality music without a kick-ass device to project it? Catching our attention with its chili padi persona – petite while packing a feisty punch – is the high-end portable Bluetooth speaker, UB+ Eupho. Fresh in the scene, the UB+ Eupho speakers has already won three awards – the Singapore Good Design Mark 2015, the A’ Design Award 2015 (an international design award based in Italy) and the Computex d&I award 2015 (organised by renowned German industry design leader iF Design).
“What sets us apart at UB+ is that we are all audiophiles at heart. We love our music. We live to hear. Music is an integral part of us. We also believe good sound need not be expensive. So we put together our expertise in sound engineering and design to bring you products with the most advanced technology at the most affordable prices to fit your lifestyle.”
The UB+ Eupho is powered by the patented ORCHAS™ Technology, which stands for Orchestrated Acoustic Structure, after three years of research. The resulting sound is so full-bodied and life-like, comprising all the naunces and details, as though a live performance is playing right in front of you. Unlike speakers of similar size, ORCHAS™ enables UB+ Eupho to have zero vibration even at maximum volume.
These speakers stand out in its ability to offer customisable sounds. On its own, the UB+ Eupho features a series of round, inter-connected branches, enabling the sound to flow out smoothly along the curved surfaces. A stunning stereo production is achieved when two Euphos are connected through the BuddyStereo™ function. More UB+ Euphos can also be connected together through the use of the Mega Party Cable to pump up the volume substantially.
To boost the bass and amplify the overall volume, users can fit in the Expansion Casing, which is sold separately. It conveniently turns into a protective case for UB+ Eupho when flipped around.
In the pipeline are more expansion casing designs such as UB+ Eupho Brave that houses six speakers, to suit different scenarios and occasions.
– Size: 76mm (h) x 53mm (w)
– Battery life of up to 20 hours
– Includes multiple inputs compatible with devices ranging from PCs to mobile phones and on all platforms
Available in warm grey and black, UB+ Eupho is now retailing at SGD89.90, with a current promotional giveaway of the Expansion Casing with every purchase. UB+ Eupho is available at all Popular and TwoBros retail stores, as well as Courts Megastore Tampines and online on Amazon.

In addition, Leica Q also promises high quality video recording that is indistinguishable from professional movie footage. The unusually high speed and unmistakable bokeh of the lens play a vital role in delivering superiority of this aspect. Depending on the scene, users can choose between 30 and 60 full frames per second for video recording in MP4 format. An integrated wind-noise filter guarantees crystal-clear sound.
Drenched in Leica’s signature sleekness, the Leica Q is constructed with the finest materials to guarantee exceptional endurance. The top plate is machined from solid blocks of aluminium, the body is made of magnesium alloy, and all lettering and the markings on its setting dials are laser-engraved.
