A leader in smart speaker system, Sonos never stops reinventing. Ushering in the next era of home audio innovations, it has recently introduced breakthroughs in both hardware and software – the new flagship SONOS PLAY:5 smart speaker and a new speaker-tuning software called Truplay.
The SONOS PLAY:5, elegantly designed from the inside out, delivers the purest, deepest and most vibrant sound yet from Sonos. The speaker delivers an audio experience that transports music aficionados to the studio where the sound is mixed and mastered.
Built with six synchronised, custom-designed drivers, the speaker’s three mid-woofers create smooth mids and deep, powerful lows that go as low as 27Hz, and three tweeters deliver crystal clear highs at any volume. The drivers are strategically placed to create a soundstage that is much wider than expected in a single speaker. What this creates is the precise separation of every vocal and instrumental element in a track.
For the first time, SONOS PLAY:5 has three orientations. In addition to horizontal orientation as a standalone speaker, two SONOS PLAY:5 paired together vertically produce top-of-the-line stereo sound with a focused and intense sweet spot. Paired horizontally, they create a larger stereo image for an immersive, room-filling listening experience.
Boasting an extremely sleek aesthetic with a matte finish, the SONOS PLAY:5 is thoughtfully designed for the home environment with the following features:
The new touch controls offer an intuitive, easy way to play, pause, adjust volume and change the track. Smart sensors make these touch controls responsive to all orientations, so the volume-up is always facing up.
Similar to its predecessor, the new SONOS PLAY:5 works seamlessly with all Sonos smart speakers and adds even greater modularity with the ability to act as rear speakers in home theatre setups with SONOS PLAYBAR® and SONOS SUB™.
Trueplay is a new feature in the Sonos app that will calibrate your speaker to your room. It is a tuning software that allows your speaker to analyse the acoustic profile of any room and fine-tunes itself. Using the Sonos app, the microphone on an iPhone or iPad, and a series of test tones emitted by the Sonos speaker, the system analyses how sound reflects off walls, furnishings, glass and other surfaces in any given room. Sonos then smartly tunes that speaker so the music sounds its very best. The result? Music is liberated so that it sounds great in every room, in every home.
“Our remit at Sonos has evolved from constantly working to improve the general sound of all of our speakers to customising them: first by room, and in the future, by person, activity and content,” said record producer, composer, and Sonos sound experience leader Giles Martin. “We are obsessed with improving the home music experience, which must take into account acoustically unfriendly rooms. Tuning a room is the first of many software enhancements that make the experience richer and more personal for listeners whilst giving artists a whole new creative arena.”
Trueplay will be available first on all SONOS PLAY:1®, SONOS PLAY:3®, SONOS PLAY:5® products and iOS controllers, and will be further added to the Sonos lineup over time.

On hindsight, the evolution of how digital music is made available to the undiscerning consumers could seem like a backward hike down the Great Wall of China. In a bid to stuff more music into our portable players, we compress MP3s and compromise their sound quality in the process. Fortunately, technology is allowing our devices to support high resolution music. Even digital music streaming services such as Deezer and Spotify provide high definition audio for consumers to enjoy music the way it was by the artists.
With this said, what’s good quality music without a kick-ass device to project it? Catching our attention with its chili padi persona – petite while packing a feisty punch – is the high-end portable Bluetooth speaker, UB+ Eupho. Fresh in the scene, the UB+ Eupho speakers has already won three awards – the Singapore Good Design Mark 2015, the A’ Design Award 2015 (an international design award based in Italy) and the Computex d&I award 2015 (organised by renowned German industry design leader iF Design).
“What sets us apart at UB+ is that we are all audiophiles at heart. We love our music. We live to hear. Music is an integral part of us. We also believe good sound need not be expensive. So we put together our expertise in sound engineering and design to bring you products with the most advanced technology at the most affordable prices to fit your lifestyle.”
The UB+ Eupho is powered by the patented ORCHAS™ Technology, which stands for Orchestrated Acoustic Structure, after three years of research. The resulting sound is so full-bodied and life-like, comprising all the naunces and details, as though a live performance is playing right in front of you. Unlike speakers of similar size, ORCHAS™ enables UB+ Eupho to have zero vibration even at maximum volume.
These speakers stand out in its ability to offer customisable sounds. On its own, the UB+ Eupho features a series of round, inter-connected branches, enabling the sound to flow out smoothly along the curved surfaces. A stunning stereo production is achieved when two Euphos are connected through the BuddyStereo™ function. More UB+ Euphos can also be connected together through the use of the Mega Party Cable to pump up the volume substantially.
To boost the bass and amplify the overall volume, users can fit in the Expansion Casing, which is sold separately. It conveniently turns into a protective case for UB+ Eupho when flipped around.
In the pipeline are more expansion casing designs such as UB+ Eupho Brave that houses six speakers, to suit different scenarios and occasions.
– Size: 76mm (h) x 53mm (w)
– Battery life of up to 20 hours
– Includes multiple inputs compatible with devices ranging from PCs to mobile phones and on all platforms
Available in warm grey and black, UB+ Eupho is now retailing at SGD89.90, with a current promotional giveaway of the Expansion Casing with every purchase. UB+ Eupho is available at all Popular and TwoBros retail stores, as well as Courts Megastore Tampines and online on Amazon.

Design and sound comes together in T7, Bowers & Wilkins’ first Bluetooth speaker. However, sound takes first priority – as with everything the label does – and T7 has the honour of featuring the first commercially available application of Bowers & Wilkins Micro Matrix technology.
This technology takes a leaf out of the Matrix internal bracing used in the reference 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers – the same ones found in Abbey Road Studios. T7 also features the Micro Matrix™ honeycomb structure, which provides substantial cabinet stiffening and a solid platform for the T7’s drive units.
T7 also uses two (patent-pending) force-cancelling high-output bass radiators to extend low frequencies, which helps deliver staggering range, depth and richness. Thanks to the company’s acoustic engineers, the T7 comes with highly optimised 50mm drive units. If you’re worried about the sound transfer, don’t. With the aptX Bluetooth, your favourite track remains in high-definition quality.
Encased in a minimalist interface, the buttons are kept to the essentials. They are unobtrusive and supported by a unique collection of audio cues developed in collaboration with Mira Calix, an international composer, artist, and performer who works with sound across a range of formats.
The T7 is a size of a hardback book, and is designed to be picked up and carried everywhere with you. It has an 18-hour lifespan, heavy-duty stability, and a rubber surround, adding protection to your sleek, quality portable speaker.
T7 is available in store, Millennia Walk or 161 Lavender Street, and is retailing for SGD590.

Bang & Olufsen (B&O) has a new addition to its family: B&O PLAY’s first Bluetooth speaker, Beoplay A2. Beoplay A2 is above all else, a beautiful product. The powerful, ultra portable Bluetooth speaker and its 360 degrees of ground breaking sound is enveloped in a cool Scandinavian elegance – a unique flat design with two rugged polymer shells, a rock solid aluminium core, and a short, exchangeable premium leather strap.
What makes it so desirable though, is its unprecedented 24 hours of battery life, giving you the freedom to enjoy great music whenever and wherever you want. Talk about a great first product! It also breaks another first, being the product that features the world’s first omni-directional sound solution for a flat speaker, True360.
Making that even better is that BeoPlay A2 is a two-channel speaker – with two channels on each side of the device applying a new Bang & Olufsen solution called “Power Response Enhancement”. It includes an extra tweeter on the rear side ofthe main driver that gives you a more even high frequency radiation around the edges.

“Giant Mini” might be an oxymoron, but it’s no less than accurate when it comes to Noontec’s latest release. The Giant Mini is actually a card-sized power bank which, despite its size, holds a 10, 000mAh power capacity!
Designed with a matte polished surface to reduce visible finger print marks, the Giant Mini weighs only 240 grams and is able to fit into most bags. Expounding on the “Giant” part of the deal is its usage of the state-of-the-art power batteries generally used in electric cars. Plus, this power battery increases its efficiency during power transfers.
Apart from the petite power bank, Noontec has also launched Polo, a lightweight mobile battery pack featuring 5,600mAh battery capacity with dual charging USB ports. Weighing at just 120 grams, Polo might just be one of the lightest portable chargers in the market today. Polo features built-in circuitry which provides protection from over-current, over-charging and over-discharge.
The Noontec “Giant Mini” retails at SGD89 and the Noontec”Polo” mobilebattery pack retails at SGD49. They are now available at Epilife, HMW, Mustafa, Lucky Store, Changi Airport (T3 – Electronics Hub and T2 – iSound).

FiiO has launched the X1 Portable High-Resolution Lossless Music Player. It’s a mouthful, but no doubt a Digital Audio Player that’ll enhance your listening experience.
Firstly, you save time. There is no longer a need to reformat your songs as the X1 supports five major lossless music formats: APE, FLAC, WAV, WMA, ALAC plus MP3, ACC, OGG and more.
Secondly, the X1 uses a high-quality Texas Instruments’ DAC chip that provides you clear and crisp sound. This DAC chip surpasses those on smartphones, giving you a reason to keep your smartphone and music device separate. Additionally, the X1 also employs Intersil’s amplifier buffer which promises quality amplification.
Keeping to the classic scroll wheel+X key group layout (a feature you see on the X5), FiiO’s latest product has an operating system allows you to browse, play songs, and add them by batches to playlists. Convenient shortcut buttons have also been included to make the process efficient and quick.
Made of light durable aluminium alloys, the X1 also has a Micro SD card slot supporting the largest card sizes of up to 128GB and is able to give you 12-15hrs of playback time in a single charge.
The FiiO X1 is available in Silver, Champagne (in stores end of October 2014) and is retailing at HMV Marina Square, Jaben at The Adelphi, TREOO, Headphone Gallery, and Authorised FiiO Resellers for SGD159.
