Last Wednesday, Converse launched their all new Spring 2014 collection in a big splash of vibrancy and colour. While we all love our blacks and whites, colour ignites imagination and it brings a certain joie de vivre to the usual monotony. The new collection is all about pops of colour, and Art Bar was the aptly chosen venue for its debut.
As we know, shoes are boring… and Converse always has fun with sneakers. Guests were greeted by showcases of the Chuck ’70, Platform Plus and Tie-Dye collections. The highlight of the evening was a Sneakers Clash art installation by urban artists Inkten and Clogtwo.
The talented local artists picked out everyday boring items – namely an old door, a printer, a worn out office swivel chair, an old boxy TV and an unassuming traffic cone – and breathed new life into them by putting their interpretation of how colour will spice up a world of grey. Using them as a blank canvas, the artists unleashed their creative expression to illustrate how colours can defy norm, and transform and clash against greyness.
Guests also participated in two interactive art activities that allowed them to express themselves with colours. One was an art wall that guests drew and wrote messages on and the other one involved them shooting paint on to plain Chucks mounted on the wall.
Guests received a jar of confetti and a notebook with a tube of watercolour paint as door gifts – a way of passing on the creative baton. Guests were encouraged to use it any way they want to add colours to their life. The notebook represents a blank canvas for any form of creative expression while the tube of paint is a tool for the activity.
The Converse Spring 2014 Chuck Taylor All Star collection is available nationwide at selected Converse boutiques. A wider range will be arriving at the stores from March 2014.
