Say what you will about the mafia, but they sure are rich in culture and symbolism. Tattoos for one, is a whole new of language. From representative Russian tattoos to the colourful and artistic Japanese inks, it’s no wonder local label Coupe-cousu have chosen the illustrative art (and other mafia-esque trademarks) to be a source of inspiration for their Fall/Winter Collection.
Coupe-couse, “cut and sewn” in French, is a brand known for its sleek and tailored look. From embroidery to prints to fabric, this collection is steeped in the luxury and mystery of the mafia world – albeit dangerous and life threatening, and their latest range of apparels can only be described as criminally cool.
Coupe-couse’s suits and shirt-jacket uses a luxurious jacquard fabric reminiscent of the bourgeois class. Taking note from the usually refine Italian mafia tattoos are the crisp engineered shirts and tailored shorts.
Throwing in a hint of casual chic are the baseball-style shirts, oversized tees, and loose harem trousers. Colours also play a big part in wrapping up this collection. While a palette of grey, slate, white, and black is the default for all things cool, the designers have included a smatter of teal, blood red, orange and electric lime to brighten things up.
