In these few weeks leading up to the DC South East Asia Tour 2013, Nookmag will be running a series of features on the DC skaters who will be headlining the skate tour. On top of that, we are also hosting a contest to give away six pairs of DC shoes signed by the stars of DC’s skate team. Don’t miss the contest details at the end of every feature!
Today, we shine the spotlight on Nyjah Huston.
It not only took raw talent to catapult Nyjah Huston into skateboarding superstardom, but also a great deal of dedication and practice. With the streets set as his stage, no roadside obstacle is impossible for this goofy-footed skater to conquer. Improvising his tricks as he shreds along, Nyjah has become a phenomenal street skater to watch.
Since he picked up skateboarding at a tender age of five, Nyjah has been eating, living and breathing his preferred four-wheeler. He had all eyes on him when he burst onto the skate scene at nine years old and won the legendary Tampa Am event at only 10 years old.
By the age of 11, Nyjah became the youngest ever X Games competitor. In 2010, he was crowned as the inaugural Street League Skateboard Champion, and in 2011 he won his first X Games Gold medal. Nyjah’s consistency and distinguished skills make him the one to beat as he relentlessly skates his way to the top of world class skateboard competitions.
Still, Nyjah’s true passion lies in street skating. He continues to blow minds with his innovative bag of tricks performed on some of the most dangerous stairs and rails in cities throughout the world. In one of his extreme stunts, he managed to perfect a grind down a steep 24-stair rail. Sounds gnarly? His first attempt landed him a busted chin and a scraped foot. For Nyjah, this is no reason to give up. He couldn’t let himself to, or in his own words, he “didn’t have a choice”. With his mind over matter, he nailed the rail.
It is no wonder DC marked the release of Nyjah’s signature shoe with a clip showing him perform an epic back-noseblunt down a stair rail at Hollywood High. It doesn’t get any more monumental than that, does it?
Speaking of monumental, Nyjah Huston will be heading down to Singapore on 7 September 2013 as part of the DC South East Asia Tour 2013. Joining him will be Wes Kremer, Matt Miller, Cyril Jackson, Tommy Fynn and Jake Hayes from the DC skate team. The skaters will be meeting fans from 12pm to 2pm at the Quiksilver Orchard Central store. A demo session will follow from 3pm to 5pm at the Somerset Skate Park.
In celebrating the DC skate tour, Nookmag will be giving away six pairs of DC shoes (worth SGD99 – SGD159), exclusively signed by all six DC skaters. Simply fill in the form below with your details and answer the question that follows. Six winners will be selected at random, based on their correct answer. Each winner will receive one pair of DC shoes. Contest ends on 3 September 2013, 11:59pm.
Are you one of our six lucky winners to flaunt a pair of exclusively signed DC shoes? Good luck and stay tuned on Nookmag to get to know the rest of the DC skate crew a little better!
