Yesterday, the voting for best art work for DRIVE officially begun. Artists were given a SGD500 budget and the theme “Drive” by the exhibition organisers to materialise an artwork for the competition. The best will be given a curated spread in Art Republik magazine and SGD5000.
DRIVE, a four-month long Gillman Barracks site-wide public art project, is highlighting outdoor art installations by galleries, the public, and international artists. This DRIVE art competition in particular, aims to encourage the public to visit Gillman Barracks, appreciate works by local artists, and vote for their favourite artwork. Besides, with the works spread throughout the grounds, it’s also the perfect excuse for an afternoon stroll.
The organisation received entries of the highest standards – a testament to the abundance of artistic talent in Singapore. Installed in the Gillman Barracks Outdoor Exhibition, the public can cast their vote and pick from vinyl prints, sculptures, and multimedia installations. The choices are diverse and unique, painted or worked on by both professional and amateur artists.
Another DRIVE highlight visitors can look forward to are programmes of art appreciation and artist engagements featuring the human stories of the artists surrounding these artworks, organised by Gillman Barracks arts club: the Arnoldii Arts Club. They can also be found online on the website www.artdrive.com.sg.
The prize for the DRIVE art competition will be announced during Art Week, 23 January 2015.
