As Easter draws near, a number of foods immediately come to mind and chocolate as well as hot cross buns usually stand out as “food of the season”. While traditional hot cross buns are lightly spiced, studded with raisins or currants and marked with a cross on top that’s either piped in or etched into the dough, this year, the experts at Marks & Spencer (M&S) reintroduce their delicious collection of hot cross buns… with some exciting new additions!
Introducing the Mini Chocolate Hot Cross Buns and the Golden Hot Cross Buns which are launched into the range to give customers a new twist on a firm favourite. Where the Mini Chocolate Hot Cross buns contain 22% Belgian chocolate chips and are perfect for an indulgent snack, the Golden Hot Cross Buns have a heart of resplendent ingredients using golden wholemeal flour with golden berries and honey… truly as good as gold!
With the two new additions, the range now comprises of eight flavours, from fruity blueberry, zesty marmalade to indulgent salted caramel and chocolate. M&S also revealed that they sell 42 million hot cross buns each year, with customers coming back for more. Bursting at the seams with delicious Vostizza currents and Turkish sultanas, one independent test found the M&S Luxury Hot Cross Buns to be packed with almost twice as much fruits as other retailers.
“This year sees the launch of two delicious hot cross bun flavours, adding to the already fantastic collection. The Golden Hot Cross Buns are made with a blend of golden wholemeal flour and honey, and are bursting with golden berries, sultans, raisins and dried cranberries, a scrumptious twist on the classic. For those who prefer a little sweetness in their buns, the Mini Chocolate Hot Cross Buns are loaded with chocolate chips. Our buns are equally delicious whether served hot or cold,” commented Sadia Usman, M&S UK Hot Cross Bun Developer. “The question is, how do you eat yours?”
As Easter is a time of rejoicing, hope and renewal of faith commonly also associated with brightly decorated eggs and Easter bunnies, M&S Food marks Easter with a collection of mouth-watering and creatively curated eggs to suit the whole family in addition to their collection of hot cross buns.
Katy Patino, M&S UK Easter Egg Developer has spent over a year perfecting the irresistible collection and developed the most delicious and innovative range yet. New this year are Angus the Bull and Moonbeam the Unicorn, which are sure to bring a smile to faces of kids and adults alike. The luxury egg range includes four new chocolatey delights, where the sophisticated Bee’s Knees Egg takes white chocolate to the next level, infusing the finest Swiss blonde chocolate with caramelised sugar.
