Nothing keeps us more alive than food and art (other than fun, sun and love, of course). On top of nourishing our body, they feed our mind and soul as well. Marrying these two elements in a harmonious union, Mad Nest presents an extraordinary art exhibition titled #EatDrinkArt, as it celebrates its second anniversary.
14 creatives that span the realms of illustration, photography, craft, calligraphy, fashion and styling were invited to explore artistic possibilities with a key ingredient from one of Mad Nest’s cuisines – Thai, Argentine or Japanese. The outcome was a flavourful mix of art pieces that will change the way you look at food.
Providing a sweet start to the exhibition is Joycelyn Wong’s illustration, Twirl & Twist. With caramel sauce as her main ingredient, Joycelyn manipulated the dessert topping into a painting of a soft-serve ice cream. The humble pineapple was brilliantly translated into a highly intriguing headpiece, morphing Caleb and Gladys’ portrait photograph into a scintillating narrative of the Scandinavian mythology of Valkyrie and her part in Odin’s age-old war legends. ‘#’ by Craft Varies’ Clarence Valerius Wee astounded many with its extreme intricacy. Using only his main ingredient, the five spice powder, calligrapher Clarence demonstrated patience and dedication to his craft with a piece that charmed every guest.
Other artists include Ultraviolets Design, Grace Ciao, Cheryl Chan & Tawan Conchonnet, C+C&Co, Clay Kuok, Pauline Ibarra, Mary Bernadette Lee, Ly Yeow, Limzy, Teresa Lim and Marlene Majella Chia.
All art pieces will be sold and half of the proceeds will be donated to The Business Times Budding Artists Fund.
