Singapore is the first and only country in Southeast Asia to be included in the MICHELIN guide’s coverage. Its selection for 2016 will be officially revealed on 21 July 2016, and the prestigious awards ceremony will be held at Resorts World Sentosa.
The ceremony will see the presentation of stars to restaurants in Singapore for the year 2016 in the presence of Michael Ellis, International Director of the MICHELIN guides.
To prepare the selection, Michelin inspectors reviewed all types of cuisines and considered only the quality of the food. They used the same five criteria around the world: quality of the ingredients used, mastery of cooking techniques and flavors, projection of the chef’s personality in his cuisine, and value for money and consistency – over time and across the entire menu. Other factors, such as place, décor, service and facilities offered, are not considered.
In collaboration with Robert Parker Wine Advocate (RWPA) and Singapore Tourism Board, the MICHELIN guide Singapore 2016 has also launched a comprehensive gourmet lifestyle website, guide.michelin.sg and a series of exclusive events. The portal aims to help locals, tourists and business travellers discover the best places that fit their budgets and cater to their preferences, right here in Singapore.
To mark the launch of the MICHELIN guide Singapore, Michelin and RPWA will be hosting the world’s first MICHELIN guide Award Ceremony cum Gala Dinner on 21 July 2016 at Resorts World Sentosa. Open to the public for the first time, the event will allow food connoisseurs and gastronomes to get up close and personal with chefs from newly crowned Michelin-starred restaurants in Singapore, and share the first moments of joy with them. A charity auction conducted by Christie’s will also be held during the gala dinner.
Guests will get to savour an extraordinary dinner prepared by Joël Robuchon and a couple of promising local chefs who are award-winners and have represented Singapore on the international stage. They will be preparing different courses collaboratively. Complementing the dinner are 12 specially selected wines from Family of Twelve, a fraternity of wineries from New Zealand.
Tickets can be purchased on guide.michelin.sg at SGD450++ per seat. Interested individuals can pre-order the MICHELIN guide Singapore 2016 on their website at SGD39.95 (inclusive of GST and free delivery within Singapore).
American Express Card Members will enjoy a range of privileges including a 50% discount to purchase the first-ever MICHELIN Guide Singapore and priority booking to MICHELIN guide events.
Apart from the MICHELIN guide Singapore Award Ceremony cum Gala Dinner, RPWA today announced a slew of post-launch activities in 2016 that promise exquisite gastronomic treats, memorable dining experiences buoyed by a star-studded line-up of chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants, and wine pairing sessions. More information on these events is available on the MICHELIN guide Singapore website.
