We’re already very familiar with recycling and the other two ‘R’s that come along with it. But how about upcyling? An example of upcycled materials is fused plastic. Fused plastic is achieved by heat-fusing layers of plastic bags which creates pieces with texture similar to that of leather. Now you must be wondering, what can we do with fused plastic? Well, you can make literally anything you want with them.
Kang, the owner and crafter of theKang, Handcrafted Adornment and Accessories, fell in love with the material and experimented with it. To date, he has created fused plastic wristbands and even a clutch bag. He’s also going to hold his fused plastic workshop where participants will be able to learn the tips and tricks on how to create and manipulate the fused plastic, and turn it into a wallet sized pouch!
The workshop will be on 20 and 21 September 2014. There will be two time slots per day: 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm. There can only be a maximum of six participants per slot so book them now before it’s all filled up! Each participant is required to pay SGD 75 and it will be held at 29B Keong Saik Road. You can register here.
