Deemed as one of the most iconic New Balance models, the 574 was first launched 30 years ago, in 1988. The 574 has endured the test of time and captured the hearts of enthusiasts as one of their favourite pair of New Balance sneakers. Its timeless design has allowed the 574 silhouette to remain relevant, cementing itself into the modern sneaker culture.
New Balance 574 ‘Classic Grey’
In 1982, during a time when neon tones and bright colours dominated the sneaker industry, New Balance took a bold direction with its latest running shoe and presented its high- performance offering in a clean grey suede colourway. Since then, the colour grey has held great significance in New Balance’s heritage. More than a hue, grey represents the fearlessly independent state of mind and has come to define the understated design philosophy that anchors New Balance footwear.
New Balance honours The Legacy of Grey with an exhibition that pays tribute to the brand’s heritage and spirit – Grey Day 15.03, and with the release of the 574 in three distinct grey styles – 574 ‘Original Grey’, 574 ‘1300JP’, and 574 ‘Classic Grey’.
New Balance 574 ‘Original Grey’
The 574 ‘Original Grey’ resembles the original colour palette of the New Balance 990 that transformed the industry when it was first released in 1982; while the 574 ‘1300JP’ takes inspiration from the legendary 1300JP in the grey/blue colourway. The limited edition 574 ‘Original Grey’ and the 574 ‘1300JP’ are available exclusively at Limited Edt and Leftfoot from today.
The third – the 574 ‘Classic Grey’ is a true embodiment of New Balance grey colourway that is synonymous with the brand since its inception. The 574 ‘Classic Grey’ is available at all New Balance Experience stores, and at Limited Edt, Leftfoot and AW Lab from today.
Get your grey on from today to 18 March as New Balance stages a design + art event, Grey Day 15.03, to celebrate the timeless tonality of classic running. The exhibition highlights the brand’s independent spirit since its beginning and the enduring design of the 574 that have beaten trends and obsolescence to become a new form of timeless art expression.
In celebration of the transcendent nature of grey, New Balance invited four local independent artists, Kelly Limerick (kllylmrick), Koh Dawn (Ektory), Tell Your Children, and Streething to build a conversation between the brand’s emblematic ‘N’ and the colour grey in direct dialogue with their imaginative and ingenious art forms.
Unique collectibles such as The Grey Foliage by Koh Dawn, Crochet dolls by Kelly Limerick, and collaborative tee by Tell Your Children, will be available for pre-order on New Balance E-commerce store from today to 31 March.
Members of the public are invited to celebrate Grey Day 15.03 with New Balance on Saturday and Sunday, 17 & 18 March, from 11.00am to 7.00pm at Miaja Gallery.
