The traditional method of drying flowers causes them to lose their vibrant colour, and their petals and leaves become brittle in the process. Preserved flowers, on the other hand, look and feel exactly like freshly-cut flowers, but they’re totally allergy-free.
To preserve a real flower, all the water content out is drawn out along with proteins, sugar and pigments, carefully using special non-toxic and non-corrosive chemicals. The result is really delicate translucent petals.
The flower is then “fed” with another eco-certified chemical solution that gives it its shape. Chemists are then able to add a whole variety of smells and vibrant colours too by introducing different pigments and essential oils.
Thanks to this advanced technology, preserved blooms can last for at least a year and up to 10 years. Preserved flowers require little maintenance. Apart from keeping them dry and giving them the occasional dusting to prevent dust from collecting on their delicate petals, there’s very little else they need since they don’t need to be watered.
