An avid supporter of local street food culture, Tiger Beer’s recently launched street food movement (phase 2) on uncaging street food in Singapore has not only raised awareness to the joys and challenges of being a hawker, it has also brought our local delicacies all the way to New York city for a change of pace.
Just yesterday, as part of the street food movement, Tiger Beer launched its inaugural Tiger Street Food Support Fund, which allows all new hawkers to apply for and receive up to SGD10,000 in funding from Tiger Beer. These funds can be used to offset various costs for any aspects of the hawker’s business (except for rental costs), and will be awarded to successful applicants via reimbursement. Open from now till 15 December, interested parties can submit their applications online, and will be informed of the status of their applications in January 2017. In order to participate, applicants will have to fulfill either one of the following conditions :
- Applicants have to be currently operating a cooked food stall in a hawker centre or coffee shop in Singapore with effect from 15 June 2016;
- Applicants will be setting up and operating a cooked food stall in a hawker centre or coffee shop in Singapore by no later than 31 December 2017.
With the opening of two new hawker centres in Q1 next year – Jurong West and Pasir Ris Town, this Support Fund will help aspiring and new hawkers to alleviate the cost of setting up a stall.
Enjoy a meal on Tiger Beer at coffee-shops island-wide
In addition to aiding hawkers in sustaining their livelihoods, Tiger Beer is also offering locals and visitors alike a chance to enjoy local fare with a $5 food coupon at select coffee-shops island-wide over the next four weeks in order to celebrate our street food and hawkers. In the hopes that Singaporeans will show our hawkers the appreciation they deserve, recipients of these coupons are encouraged to post a photo of their favourite street food or hawker with the hashtag #uncagestreetfood.
