This month, we approach the theme with a fresh perspective. Apart from the usual sneaker update, Sneaker Month is about personalities.
Today, we review some of the sneakers released so far in 2015 (and some classics), and figured what they’d be like if they were people…
Converse Colour Weave in Multi-Colour
Converse Chuck Taylors are known to be blank canvases, ready for consumers to personalise them, but the Colour Weave is made for the quirky, crazy individual. If sneakers were people, this one would be into artpop parties and the only person in his group of friends to be able to rock drop-crotch pants.
Vans SK8 Hi Slim
Stashed under the Classics section, the Vans SK8 Hi Slim shoes are like the starter pair to a brand deep with heritage. If sneakers were people, this pair of Vans would be picky but fuss-free. (Yes, we know it’s an oxymoron.) He’ll only choose styles that will transcend through time, trends, and trashing – but you can count on him to be easygoing and down-to-earth.
New Balance White Instinct ML999AW
One of the latest New Balance releases to hit the stores, the White Instinct collection is the brand’s way of stripping away the prints and colours, and going minimal. If sneakers were people, the White Instinct ML999AW would be the one scoffing at anyone saying white shoes are school shoes. He’s into sports-luxe, and wears his pants well-tailored and pressed.
Adidas Yeezy 750 Boost
The Yeezy Boost is Kanye West’s first collaboration with Adidas. It features a premium leather and mesh upper with a velcro strap that keeps your feet in place. If sneakers were people, the Adidas Yeezy Boost would be someone who has never shied away from voicing out his opinions or trying something different. Every move he makes has a purpose. Sort of like God. But more like Kanye. So basically, Yeezus.
Nike Air Max 1 3.26
Released as a tribute to Air Max Day, the Nike Air Max 1 3.26 sports a white/red/volt green upper – and of course, a 3.26-emblazoned tongue tab. If sneakers were people, the 3.26 would be a fashion-savvy sneaker collector. He is dedicated to his art – whatever that may be – and holds strongly to traditions and culture. He hopes to one day, leave behind a legacy.
Bata Tennis Shoe
To celebrate its 120th anniversary, Bata relaunched their Tennis Shoe – signature green piping and white canvas included. If sneakers were people, the Bata Tennis Shoe would be the shy kid who has so far been overshadowed by his bolder, louder and more fashionable peers. He has more hits than misses, but has learnt that keeping it simple and chic is the way to go.
