We live in a fast-paced digital realm where the pursuit of perfection and superior technology overshadows the charm and soul of analogue artistry. Like a persistent flame that refuses to die, the passion for analogue photography continues to be fuelled by unrelenting enthusiasts.
Local advocators of analogue photography Peek! is organising a day of discovering the instant magic of Polaroid that was brought back to life by The Impossible Project. Happening on 31 March 2012 at the 2902 Gallery, the event coincides with the closing of the month-long Sibylle Bergemann Exhibition (co-organised by 2902 Gallery and Goethe Institute Singapore).
Titled ‘Impossibly Instant Made Possible’, the event will showcase and introduce a comprehensive line-up of films and products from The Impossible Project. To ensure that participants experience firsthand the magic of instant analogue photography, a mini-workshop will also be conducted where they will get the chance to interact with carefully refurbished Polaroid cameras and understand how these cameras work. At the same time, participants can sift through a series of Polaroid shots taken using The Impossible Project suite of films by Peek!.
Paying homage to the art once thought lost, a guided tour of the Sibylle Bergemann Exhibition has been scheduled as well. Often known as one of the leading contemporary German photographers, Sibylle Bergemann’s (1941-2010) work expresses a critical analysis on the reality of life during and after the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Always pushing the envelope of her subjects and the augmented reality they present, her photographs often reflect peculiar details of symbols that tell subtle stories and nuances of life during that time. Similarly, The Impossible Project also aims to further push the boundaries on the type of artistic flair photographers are able to achieve with the use of its films.
