We can always rely on the Brits to give us style advice. Take style icons like Audrey Hepburn, Mick Jagger, Kate Moss, and heck, even the boys from One Direction – the Brits have got fashion down to a T. From print on print and layering to fun tea dresses and leather boots, these icons are not afraid to experiment or provide a twist to classic pieces.
Last week, members of the media and fashion elite were privy to the unveiling of the Jack Wills Spring ’15 Collection at the Luxe Art Museum, where guests were treated to fish and chips, mini burgers, a tote-making station, and an electrifying performance by The Sam Willows. Jack Wills is a brand that we can only sum up as quintessentially British – the label is, after all, known for its heritage-inspired fashion and its trademark is “Fabulously British!”
What we saw on the runway was Richard Nicoll’s first collection as the latest designer helming Jack Wills. The Brit designer is responsible for some of the smart wardrobe choices of celebs like Sienna Miller, Florence Welch and Kiera Knightley, and his own label is celebrated for its clean lines and modernist classics.
This time, Richard Nicoll was inspired by the music of British Youth sub cultural periods from the 1960s Youth Quake through to 90’s Brit Pop, and his influence on Jack Wills can be seen in some of the label’s pieces, including weaved pea coats, leather jackets, and tweed blazers emblazoned with iron-on heritage patches.
The outfits illustrated the distinctive pops of colour, and there was also the pairing of sporty, equestrian tailoring with youthful fun and playfulness for the ladies and bomber jackets with streetwear-inspired sweats for the men. As a whole, the collection exudes an optimistic and youthful vibe that’s hard to pass.
