Following the success of his EP Skeletons in 2019, singer-songwriter Keshi (real name: Casey Luong) is the guy to follow in 2020. He was also named “essential new artist for 2020” by NME. His follow-up EP bandaids was released on 24 March 2020. Unfazed by the global pandemic, Keshi was one of the few who braved the storm and released new materials.
And luckily, he did! The 5-track EP is what the world needs right now. It’s sombre, heart-breaking, and a perfect soundtrack for a rainy #StayHome day. It’s the soundtrack of quarantine! Listen to his discography of EPs to witness the growth of his music, currently ending with bandaids.
He mentions, “They [all his EPs] are all through a similar vein. I’m constantly learning and trying to grow myself as an artist because as an artist, as Keshi, I feel like he’s only been around for like a couple of years now. I mean, since 2017 around that time and I’m still learning how to be creative in that regard. So, trying to basically find my steps into my debut album. But it’s definitely like a maturation, you know? Every step I’m learning different ways to sound fuller or like, more concise in my writing or more honest. But everything always is as honest as it can be. So, yeah!”
Climbing up fast on the lo-fi hierarchy, Keshi began his musical journey in 2017. At the time, he was a registered nurse who devotes his time to making music on his off days. Uploading the tunes on Soundcloud, Keshi became an internet stardom. After only 3 years, he has more than 2 million listeners on Spotify alone.
