SilkAir has always believed that journeys should be joyful, and it’s the little things that make a difference. In this day and age, this means providing a full-service offering on-board, such as the luxury of check-in baggage allowance, in-flight meals, timely flights, and of course, entertainment via its complimentary wireless in-flight entertainment system, SilkAir Studio – now available on all its aircraft.
As the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, SilkAir launched its wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, SilkAir Studio in 2014. Complementing the then existing overhead system, this wireless service provides customers with diverse options for a more customised in-flight entertainment experience, allowing passengers on SilkAir flights to stream blockbuster hits, short features, as well as chart-topping music to their personal laptops and handheld devices throughout their flights via Wi-Fi directly at no additional cost, and without the need to download a separate mobile app prior to boarding.
As an example of SilkAir’s commitment to quality, full-service air travel, this effort to improve the in-flight entertainment experience for their customers was established alongside service mainstays such as in-flight meals, 30kg (economy) and 40kg (business) baggage allowance, check-in service, seat selection, and the KrisFlyer frequent flyer programme.
Although time has passed and we now have the luxury of individual screens behind the headrest of every seat, this does not mean that the SilkAir Studio is now obsolete.
Earlier this month, SilkAir brought their “little joys matter” philosophy to life, reminding passengers how little extras can make big differences. Non-SilkAir travellers flying to Singapore were met at an overseas airport by SilkAir stewardesses and they were invited to participate in a poll to find out what their favourite ‘little joy’ in air travel was – be it in-flight meals, complimentary luggage allowance, on-board entertainment, seat selection, etc. On completing the poll, they were offered a voucher to fly with SilkAir in order to enjoy these little joys on their next trip, and were also offered a special surprise: the Joy Pack! Disguised as a box of chocolates, the packs, once opened, were revealed to be innovative, portable in-flight entertainment screens that held engaging content like travel programmes, kids shows and TV comedies. The travellers brought the Joy Packs on their flight, allowing them the chance to enjoy a little of the joy that SilkAir offers its customers on a regular basis. Through the activation, SilkAir was able to reach out to consumers and showcase that when it comes to air travel, the little joys do matter.
Although passengers would not be receiving the Joy Pack on SilkAir flights, they will still be able to access SilkAir Studio, a wireless entertainment system that allows them to reach a library of content on their own smart devices. Likewise, Business-class passengers on flights above two hours can also request for tablets to use for the duration of their flight.
