Lomography turns a significant 20 years old this November! It all began with a fateful encounter in the early 1990s when some students stumbled upon the Lomo Kompakt Automat – a small, enigmatic Russian camera. What started as a small community of passionate friends soon became an incredible analogue movement with over one million community members and the biggest analogue camera producer worldwide.
Since 1992, Lomography has expanded to over 50 stores from Paris to New York, Tokyo, Beijing, Sao Paolo and all over the world with more than 150 creative camera models launched. And to make sure film photography enchants you forever, the analogue advocator has secured film production by distributing its own Lomography film range and a whole collection of fashion, books and accessories.
Come Friday, 23 November, Lomography Singapore will be celebrating its 20th anniversary Stolichnaya style and reliving the best of the 90s.
Paying tribute to the analogue art, Lomography will be unveiling its brand new Lomo Life book – a stunning two-volume slipcase edition celebrating the last two decades of Lomography. Packed with incredible, exclusive photographs dug from the Lomographic archives, these two hardback books retrace the most significant moments in the making of Lomography and feature forewords from both cult-author Neil Gaiman and award-winning Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
The first volume – The Cameras – presents all of the weird and wonderful cameras it has released over the years while the second volume retraces some of the most important moments in its 20-year history – shown in all colour-dripping glory!
The timeline of Lomography’s artistic movement, product development and expansion of community will also be displayed in store. Other highlights include potluck goodies and flash mobs where Lomographers will put on their dancing shoes and show off their tackiest moves as a collective 90s style!
To join in the fun, come decked out in your grungiest 90s getup or as the cheesiest icons from that era (think Britney Spears meets Vengaboys) and strike a pose at the Lomography Actionsampler Photobooth.
And what’s a Lomography celebration without paying tribute to the community? The biggest Lomography photo hunt has started and Lomography wants to find the best analogue picture ever made by the community. Simply send over the best picture you have ever made and get the chance to win amazing anniversary prizes and piggy points. The 100 best photos will be selected for a postcard set. Get ready to rumble!
