At 10pm tonight, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has announced a partial lockdown of all public activities starting 18 March – 31 March 2020. Malaysia has not been on any form of lockdown since the racial riot incident of 13 May 1969.
With that, all religious, sporting, cultural and social activities are banned. This includes the closure of all business and religious premises. On top of that, travel restrictions are also placed with tourists and visitors banned from entering the country. Those who arrived from abroad must undergo self-quarantine.
School children are at luck as their school holidays will be extended to 31 March 2020. This also includes students of higher education in colleges and universities nationwide. Only supermarkets, public markets and convenience stores are open during this time.
With that being said, what you can do is not panic, do not hoard unnecessary household items as you are still able to restock and continue to work from home. Stay safe during this time of partial lockdown! For more info, read below!
