This year, designer toy makers Mighty Jaxx are launching a new line that includes DC characters and designs by Jason Freeny. This line, called XXRAY, asks the viewer to imagine what their favourite characters might look like on the inside.
This unique concept is brought to life through artist Jason Freeny’s anatomy and “dissection-style” work, bringing a completely new perspective to iconic characters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Freeny, born in Maryland, US, is known for his anatomy-inspired figures, cementing his position in the designer toy market. More characters will join the XXRAY line later in 2016.
Prior to this, Freeny was the Designer, Art Director and Typographer for a poster series titled Anatomy which went on to claim the Grand Prix (Outdoor) and Gold Medal (Print Work) awards at the 2009 Dubai Lynx International Advertising Festival. In 2011, Clutter Magazine named Freeny the “Break Through Artist” of 2011; since then, he has been a part of numerous group art shows and, in 2013, his first solo exhibition was held at the 101 Exhibit Art Gallery in Los Angeles.
Freeny’s collaborations with Mighty Jaxx include such products as Archive Skull Bomb, Micro Anatomic and Friendly Fire, a series of popular toys that have helped to propel the designer toy market to greater heights.
Mighty Jaxx has also worked with renowned artists and popular lifestyle brands such as Threadless and New Balance to create toy designs that incorporate urban art. As of 2015, the company has produced over 100 figures, available in over 50 countries. They are committed to delivering novel, quirky art collectibles of outstanding make, and welcome new ideas by aspiring artists.
