Google is catching up with Apple after the launch of its Google Pixel 2 XL, an attempt at creating an Android version of the iPhone 8. We may be a little late in the reviewing game, but here’s an honest opinion of what we think of the highly-raved smartphone.
An evolution of last year’s design for a fresh, confident and even bolder looking Pixel. The big 18:9 display makes the phone look modern and sleek. However, when holding it in one hand, it is definitely too big to comfortably reach the top quarter of the display. Thankfully, the Pixel 2 XL has a flat display that doesn’t have accidental palm touch issues, and a fingerprint sensor in a perfect position right where your finger expects it.
Everyday performance of a smartphone is probably the most important thing to every user. With the new processor and another year of optimization, the Pixel 2 XL is ridiculously fast and smooth in everything you do. Additionally, when you first load your Pixel 2 XL, you won’t be greeted by a long setup process such as extra account permissions, restore setting or backup.
Being the highest-rated smartphone camera ever, the Pixel 2 XL takes brilliant photos and standout videos in any light. Thanks to a powerful combination of both optical and electronic image stabilization, there wasn’t a single shot that was “bad” – it was either “good” or “great”. If you love taking selfies, the Pixel 2XL is definitely the phone for you. The most impressive part of Google’s Portrait Mode system is that it works extremely well on the front-facing camera. The extra processing leads to standout selfies – one of the best I’ve taken on a phone!
Perhaps like many others, you are constantly receiving a ‘storage full’ notification on your iPhone. But with free, unlimited storage for all your photos and videos, you’ll never have this problem again. With Google Photos baked directly into your camera, it’s easy to save, organize, find and share any photo or video. Say goodbye to endless scrolling to find an old photo as well – just enter a location, a person’s name or even an emoji to quickly find what you’re looking for.
Most definitely the best part of the Pixel 2 XL is the long-lasting, fast charging battery. with a 3520mAh battery, your pixel can last all day, even with everything turned on – Bluetooth, auto-screen brightness, and excessive social media usage. The best part? you can get up to 7 hours of battery life from just 15 minutes of charge!
Google has probably made the best Android phones you can buy today. Other than the size and the lack of a headphone jack, the hardware is well-built, paired with an impeccable software and user experience, definitely a smartphone I’ll recommend!
