One of the most exciting comebacks in the photography realm this year is a cylindrical brass beauty. Lomography and Zenit have teamed up to reinvent and re-engineer the 1840 Petzval lens to make it compatible for use with modern (D)SLR and analogue cameras.
Invented in 1840, the Petzval lens was one of the greatest portrait glass lens of all times. The new Petzval art lens will bring back the same unique features as the original lens – swirly bokeh effect, sharpness, large aperture, artful vignetting, high contrast and strong colour saturation. Made out of Russian glass, the lens boasts a large f2.2 aperture, narrow depth of field, field curvature, with an extremely high resolution in the focus area. Play around with manual focusing and watch how objects in focus stay crisp and sharp while elements out of focus get blurry and swirl away.
Contrary to the original lens which was optimised for black and white photography, the new Petzval lens is a high quality multi coated lens that ensures great performance in colour analogue and digital cameras.
The new Petzval lens is available for pre-order exclusively on Kickstarter. Start funding and bring back this magnificent lens for a new generation of photographers and film makers in the 21st century.
