At a young age of 12, Brasil’s star player, Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, or Neymar for short, spray painted his soccer boots gold. He has always wanted a gold pair but couldn’t find anything like it anywhere. In accordance to the fact that Brasil qualified into the quarter finals for this year’s World Cup, Nike has taken Neymar’s dream and created a pair of gold boots – the Limited Edition Gold Hypervenom.
The Nike Gold Hypervenom features all the cutting-edge design elements of the regular Hypervenom, such as the full-comfort NIKESKIN upper, new foot last to place the foot closer to the ground and ball, and perfected outsole to help deliver strength without compromising on lightness. In addition, the special edition version also features a unique sock-liner detail of a gold spray can and the Hypervenom boot graphic.
Keep an eye for Neymar during the rest of the season as he will be wearing the Gold Hypervenom boot for the rest of the tournament. The boot is available at Nike.
Boots would not be complete without Brasil’s signature green and yellow jersey, affectionately called, Amarelinha, or ‘Little Yellow One’. Looking back at all the past jerseys, it has definitely evolved to suit their current players. As Brasil enters the final 16, we take a look at the process of creating Brasil’s national team home kit for the past decade and a half.
Nike’s design mantra for the 2014 kit focused on “Cool under pressure”, focused on details to reflect Brasil’s heritage and passion. Football is so deeply ingrained into Brasilian culture that it can be an enormous task to capture the meaning of the sport and its relationship with the people.
Over the past 16 years, Nike has been at the forefront of jersey design and innovation, over time creating a more comfortable neckline, and incorporating the latest in thermoregulating material and a sleek, slim-cut fit to keep players dry and comfortable. Isn’t this one a beauty?
