Devised to battle the summer heat for ‘soulful runners’, the Nike X Undercover Gyakusou Spring/Summer 2013 collection combines Jun Takahashi’s functional avant-garde aesthetic with the latest Nike innovations.
The collection originates from Jun’s desire to create the ideal running products for the marathon in Honolulu. As he said, “Running in the Summer is a battle against heat.” With that as a focus, the Nike X Undercover Gyakusou’s philosophy has always been to find the perfect balance between style and functionality, in the same way as the ‘soulful runner’ who focuses on both the contemplative and performance sides of running.
With an unparalleled attention to details, the collection is designed specifically to address the cooling requirements of summer runners and provide avid athletes with the ability to pursue their passion despite sweltering conditions. From head to toe, the apparels employ unlined, breathable and supremely lightweight materials.
The men’s collection’s signature wavy pattern – inspired by military quilt designs – brings in a subtle functional utility look and feel, while keeping intact the total comfort that stems from its organic shapes.
The women’s collection, with the season’s broader selection of uniquely crafted pieces, moves away from the men’s naturalistic shapes, sporting an iconic diamond panelling.
The collection’s trademark colour palette speaks to Takahashi’s urban-rural accord with subtle city tones and natural hues, which are popped this season by bright Mesa orange, lush Victory green, and fuchsia Sangria pink, reflecting the renowned vibrancy of Rio landscapes.
