You don’t need an airplane ticket to go places. You need a book. A book transforms you into an axe-wielding dwarf in Middle Earth (Lord of The Rings Trilogy), lets you wear the shoes of an outspoken, strong-willed woman in the 19th Century (Pride and Prejudice), and transports you to a world where every citizen is under constant surveillance (Nineteen Eighty-Four).
A good story enriches your mind, captures your imagination, and teaches you a thing or two about life. This also means it can be seen as a fire-starter to chaos. Governments have been banning books for years, whether it’s because these books were deemed to be demoralising to its system or for its portrayal of drugs, sexuality, and more.
Out of Print pays homage to these books – from titles currently banned to those who have now gained the stamp of approval; from iconic classics to stories that are no longer in bookstores. The fashion label celebrates the world’s greatest stories by printing its covers on t-shirts, tote bags, pouches, and hoodies. And each product is treated to feel soft and worn like a well-read book.
In addition to being book lovers, Out of Print also does its part as good Samaritans. Acknowledging that people all over the world do not have access to books, the label is donating one book for each product sold on their site. This good deed is carried out together with Books For Africa, who helps distribute the books.
Just like Out of Print, Nookmag (being an online magazine and all) loves a good story! Naturally, we’ve brought in Out of Print as part of our recently-launched Nookmag Store, with prices starting from SGD18.90. We’d also like to extend the act of giving. As part of our #NKMGDoGood initiative, Nookmag will donate SGD1 from every sale to the cause that we believe in.
Keep reading, and keep doing good.
