Leading Singapore craft brewery, Heart of Darkness, welcomes American deli, Park Bench Deli, for a special kitchen takeover. For one weekend only on Saturday, 30 November and Sunday, 1 December , pair your choice of craft beers with an extensive menu of mouth-watering, classic American-style sandwiches.
Park Bench Deli, known for their moist, flavourful, and hearty sandwich portions, will be serving up five different types of double-deckers using quality ingredients to recreate timeless classics with a twist at the tap house. Helmed by renowned Chef Andrei Soen of The Cajun Kings, Park Bench Deli brings a chef’s perspective to the good ol’ toastie.
PARK BENCH DELI KITCHEN TAKEOVER
A sandwich worth trying is the Chicken Liver Toast, featuring pâté seasoned generously with salt and cayenne pepper. The pâté is heated in oil over really high heat and more spices are added on a homemade sourdough for a crisp and satisfying crunch. This sandwich is best paired with the Excited Magpie Dry Stout. Heart of Darkness added a whole lot of coffee beans to their favourite stout to boost its coffee flavour and aroma. The bitterness of the roasty coffee aroma does well in matching up with the earthy flavour of the liver.
The Chopped Cheese is a mouthful. It begins with a grilled beef patty infused with sriracha, topped with a towering pile of american cheese, pickle relish, shredduce, and tomato on a french roll. It takes a certain type of beer to pair with the hot sriracha sauce and the clean and crisp Futile Purpose Cucumber Pilsner from Heart of Darkness is sure to refresh and clean your palate in between bites. The addition of cucumber in the craft beer makes this a refreshing complement to your meal.
Another interesting dish to look out for is the Grilled Chicken Com Tam. Deeply charred mustardy chicken thighs are paired with a sunny side-up egg, cucumbers, carrots, daikon pickles, scallions, nước chấm (Vietnamese dipping sauce made from fish sauce), and broken rice.
The robust dark malts from the Director’s Cacao Nib Porter offer a complementary roasty bitterness, but the smoky side adds an extra-savoury oomph. The beer finishes long and smooth, with a hint of roast.
