Officially launched in 2012, JinnyboyTV is a Youtube sensation from our neighbour up north. Based in the capital of Malaysia, JinnyboyTV has consistently churned out entertaining and humorous videos such as ABUDEN & ONLY IN MALAYSIA that reflect their country and its adored imperfections. It doesn’t hurt that these videos are hit-generating too, some amassing over 8,000,000 views from audiences worldwide.
JinnyboyTV consists of Jin Lim, better known as Jinnyboy, and Reuben Kang. Jin, the self-proclaimed slacker, is a full time Radio DJ on the popular Hitz.FM’s morning show while Reuben Kang is a lecturer at Institute of Advertising and Communication and TV host on Malaysia’s cable TV ASTRO‘s Football Overload.

Jinnyboy is not that much of a slacker though. Together with Rueben, the duo behind JinnyboyTV was commissioned by the Singapore Tourism Board to film a video showcasing our “hipster” locations – or in other words, places unmapped by tourist handbook Lonely Planet.
Not only does this mark the expanding influence of the social media personalities, it also reflects the friendly similarities between Malaysia and Singapore. Malaysian and Singaporean quirks aren’t that far apart, as evident from JinnyboyTV’s videos.
I have been a fan since early 2012 and don’t take my word for it, you can verify it here. So when I knew that Jinnyboy and Reuben were coming to town last Saturday, I had to catch up with them at the Flesh Imp flagship store at Scape . The conversation revolved around how the duo are liking Singapore and what goes on behind their work.

Asked to throw out a few words to describe Singapore, Jin and Reuben quoted – in the most local manner they could muster – “KUA SIMI KUA!” and “Chio Bu…”. You judge for yourself if they pulled that off in our video interview.
What a man or a woman carries with them can tell you a lot about their personalities, and so I took the opportunity to take a peek into Jinnyboy and Reuben’s bags to see what they carry around as daily essentials. Their possessions are surprisingly few and Jinnyboy doesn’t even carry a bag. Hmm..
Reuben’s daily essentials: Herschel backpack, Macbook Pro, Tissot Watch, Samsung S4, Burberry Wallet, and a pen for doodling
Jin’s daily essentials: G-Shock Watch, Canon 5D DSLR, Iphone, LV Wallet

About Simcik: The honcho who operates Nookmag.com by passion. A subpar writer and a so-so photographer. He churns out lame jokes but thinks he is really funny. He is a traveller, a father, an idealist, a juggler with multiple roles but a dreamer none-the-less. Say “hi” when you see him.
