This Summer, Converse and Amsterdam-based Pop Trading Company present a capsule with a spirited approach to menswear. Bringing together two classics for the first time: Miffy, the globally beloved cartoon bunny created by Dick Bruna in 1955 is celebrated through the Converse Jack Purcell Pro.
In the decades since her creation, Miffy has resonated around the world through her approachable look and her signature positivity. Growing up with Miffy in the Netherlands, Pop Trading Company’s co-founders Peter Kolks and Ric van Rest had a cheeky-but-playful-idea of melding their crafted menswear with the cartoon’s endearing persona. The duo took the idea to Miffy, and in 2019, released the first menswear line featuring her likeness.
Now, Pop Trading Company brings Miffy to another beloved classic: the Jack Purcell Pro – a performance version of the court classic designed specifically for skateboarding. Available in two iterations, one offering provides an embroidered all-over Miffy print, while a second version presents Miffy holding a balloon screen-printed on the upper. Completing the pack, Converse and Pop Trading co-branding is found on the license plate and sockliner with “Pop Trading Company” printed within the Jack Purcell’s signature “smile” on the toe cap.
While offering a charming take on the Jack Purcell Pro, the capsule maintains the performance benefits of Converse CONS. The high top is designed with skaters in mind: offering ankle stability while a tighter fit, winged tongue, and outsole rubber traction, provide durability and grip.
Originally founded as a skate distributor in 2013, Pop Trading Company founders Kolks and van Rest started designing clothing with the goal of crafting elevated menswear without forgetting their roots in skateboarding. In 2020, Pop Trading Company partnered with Converse to explore the synergy between Converse’s classic footwear with Pop’s elevated style. Since then, the partners introduced several iterations of the Jack Purcell Pro, with co-founder Kolks citing, “With a heritage that is quite heavily menswear-based, we felt the Jack Purcell Pro was the perfect shoe to tell new, playful stories on such as introducing Miffy to its canvas for the first time.”
