The results are out, and Prima Taste Laksa Wholegrain LaMian is the only wholegrain noodle to win the coveted top spot on The Ramen Rater Top 10 Instant Noodles 2017 list, two years in a row.
For the second year running, Prima Taste did Singapore proud as its Laksa Wholegrain LaMian topped the list of world’s best instant noodles by the US blog The Ramen Rater . Prima Taste Curry Wholegrain LaMain was also ranked sixth on the list by the blog, out of over 400 instant noodles that were tasted. An astounding accomplishment in the world of instant noodles, these are the only wholegrain noodles to have made the top 10 list since it was launched in 2011.
The Singapore brand has once again debunked the myth that healthy food does not taste good, and good-tasting food is bad for your health, as its Wholegrain LaMian are the only wholegrain products to have ever made it on this widely watched list. With this ethos in mind, Prima Taste develops its products to be nutritious without compromising on the eating quality.
“[Prima Taste] Laksa and Curry LaMian varieties were unlike anything I’d tried before,” says ,” says Hans Lienesch, the instant noodle specialist behind the 15-year-old Ramen Rater blog, in an interview with BBC.com.
“(They contain) thick and chewy noodles as well as huge sachets of paste and coconut powder. I remember talking to some people in the industry and telling them to get some to try – that this stuff was a real game-changer.”
The Prima Taste Wholegrain Edge
Prima Taste’s Wholegrain LaMian is the first wholegrain instant noodle in Singapore substituting 51 per cent of the white flour in the noodles with Prima’s own proprietary Superfine Wholegrain Flour.
Leveraging on Prima Group’s flour milling expertise, the company developed a superfine-version of wholegrain flour. Due to the extremely fine granulation of wholegrain flour, Prima Taste was able to substitute the majority of the white flour in the noodles with wholegrain flour into the LaMian noodles, without compromising on the texture.
“We are heartened to once again be rated number one by The Ramen Rater, an authority on delicious instant noodles for over a decade,” says Eric Sim, General Manager of Prima Taste.
“We are affirmed in our continued efforts in creating healthy yet great tasting products. Like an athlete training for years to reach the dream of attaining an Olympics medal, Prima Taste has been working effortlessly to reach this supreme achievement for our Wholegrain LaMian.”
Despite the high composition of wholegrain flour, the noodles do not have that coarse, grainy texture typically associated with wholegrain products. In fact, the texture of Prima Taste Wholegrain LaMian noodles is very close to – if not indistinguishable from the same noodles made from white flour.
Unlike most instant noodles, Prima Taste LaMian are steamed and air-dried, making the noodles healthier as there is no added oil. The steaming process, coupled with the use of customised premium quality flour, gives the original Prima Taste LaMian and Wholegrain LaMian noodles a smooth and springy texture, almost like that of fresh, hand-pulled noodles.
Prima Taste Wholegrain LaMian, SGD11.40 for 4 packs, is available from all major supermarkets and online.
