Kuala Lumpur was hit by a state of trance last Friday night as it kicked off the weekend-long Future Music Festival Asia 2013, held from 15 to 16 March 2013. Thousands of music-lovers from every nook and cranny of the globe flocked to the Malaysian capital to be enthralled by the legendary Armin Van Buuren on day one of the festival. All it took was one world-scale stage and eight globally renowned DJ acts to conceive one epic night of adrenaline-pumping trance party.
Dubbed A State of Trance 600: The Expedition World Tour, the party was dedicated solely to celebrate Armin’s 600th ‘A State of Trance’ radio show. Other acts such as Ben Gold, Super8 & Tab, W&W, Cosmic Gate and Aly & Fila were specially handpicked by Armin to grace the stage.
Ben Gold’s hyper energetic performance during sun set kick-started the evening on a high note while crowd favourites W&W and Cosmic Gate dropped popular tunes that united the dance music fanatics in one high-spirited chorus. By the time Armin took the spotlight on the stage, the party crowd was in pure ecstasy.
Day two saw the main Future Music Festival Asia 2013 took place with four different massive stages namely the Flamingo Stage, The Prodigy Presents Warrior’s Dance Arena, the Gnome Stage and the Red Bull Hangar. With a vast array of music genres featured at the stages, the crowd is definitely spoilt for choice.
The Flamingo Stage featured the likes of Temper Trap, Rita Ora, PSY, Fun., Bloc Party and more. Without a doubt, these talented acts proved their flair for performing live.
Even though her performance was plagued by technical difficulties, the feisty Rita Ora went on like pro, propelling her contagious energy through the crowd. This came as no surprise as she attested her dynamic self during a media interview before her performance. Revealing that she is her worst critic, Rita Ora mentioned that she gets inspired by meeting normal people on the streets and listening to music. She said that her creative process is random and spontaneous and emphasised that ‘it is all about the energy’.
The Prodigy Presents Warrior’s Dance Arena presented the likes of Feed Me, Kill The Noise, Zeds Dead and Borgore who shared the stage with one of the best live acts in the world – The Prodigy.
Hip Hop acts dominated the Gnome Stage, which featured the likes of Naughty by Nature and De La Soul. Other international acts who shared the stage included world-renowned Dutch DJ Sidney Samson, Grammy Award Nominee and trance superstar producer Andy Moor and the pride of Asia Angger Dimmas.
Lastly, the Red Bull Hangar featured a DJ set by English electronic band Ladytron, Brains & The Eye (B.A.T.E), DJ Fuzz, Mr Fluff, Deer Society and Budculture.
