Japan has always been a level above when it comes to innovative technologies. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, graduation ceremonies have been cancelled to minimise contact. That, however, did not stop Business Breakthrough University in Tokyo.
They used robots to conduct the ceremony! The robots are creations of ANA Holdings named ‘Newme’. They were dressed in graduation gown and caps with tablets as “faces” of the graduates who were tuned in via Zoom on their laptops. Just as how it is done at a graduation ceremony, one after another the robots went up the stage to receive their scrolls.
The ‘Newme’ robot is designed to become the new ‘you’ – a remotely controlled, customisable avatar you can use to talk, walk and explore the world. Perfect for the quarantine period.
